Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments I hate naming things. I swear it's just taken me longer to name a planet than it has to write the first 2000 words of the first chapter!

Carole P. Roman | 4665 comments Mod
hahaha. I know, then you spend more time finding new names, 'cause they are too similar.

Kirkus reviewed Bulwark. They have to change the name to Brit Lunden though.

message 753: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Did they out you and was it a good review? I haven't finished mine so I can't get it reviewed.

Ugh. Titles.

message 755: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments That was pretty good. Bit like a summary though is that how they review?

Hmmm titles:

Claiming Iridessia sounds more like a romance than a bunch of people building on a new planet.

Mysteries of Iridessian Six doesn't do it for me.

Hate naming things.

message 756: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Iridesian Haunts. Two meanings- 1) the people trying to build on the planet are being haunted by the things going on. 2) they have to go to all these places/haunts to see if it's safe.

Meh, I still don't like it.

message 757: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments I've done the characters with similar names. I had Nate, Tate and Nine at one point in Nate and Day before I change it Nate, Sortien and Twelve. Missing Remnants had Laiten and Lena as a married couple. Tough, besides, I'm Debz married to Danny so stuff like that happens.

I thought about Conquering Iridessia, but every Sci-Fi author conquers something at some point. lol

I've still got Iridessian Haunts until I come up with somefink more cleverer like. Init.

Have you had that breathing checked out? (I can talk I get the same thing when I move, I haven't had mine looked at either.)

message 759: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Go ahead, the concept of man-flu always amuses me. You can buy that in shops now- a thing called Man Flu in a bottle. No idea what it is, some remedy or other.

I must stop eating biscuits. I'm supposed to be dieting...

message 760: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments I was doing really well without the biscuits until I had to name something. I’ll have to try harder tomorrow. I’ll never get anywhere at this rate.

message 761: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments I keep things in for the kids who don’t eat as much as I do.

message 762: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments There will now follow a frustrating few hours while I look for a cave and ghost graphic to be the thumb-sized cover that appears on Radish Fiction. I may be some time...

message 763: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments ARGGGGHHHHHHH

message 764: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments So I thought I had a cover. But my husband came in and said, "What is it?" It's a bloody ghost FFS!

He said it's colourful, but it doesn't drag him into the book. At least with a shirtless torso you know what you're getting. FFS.

message 765: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments He's actually very helpful in that respect. Some people are just yes men, no use really.

Cover alert

Iridessian Haunts by Amy J. Hamilton

message 766: by Amy (last edited Sep 28, 2017 11:22AM) (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments It's got me intrigued too. Be interesting to find out what goes on... lol I'll figure it out in a chapter or so. Thank you btw, I have no manners tonight!

Leave it to some men, particularly husbands, to say the darndest things. Yup... *sigh* I like the cover, Amy. Hugs

My husband is the same way, Amy. It makes me so mad when I spend hours working on something and the response I basically get from him is, "I don't like it." He is really good about telling my why though and after I cool off, I normally agree with him. It also makes me feel good when he does compliment something because I know he means it.

Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 1496 comments Mod
Nice cover and blurb, Amy!

message 770: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Thanks Erica and Sam. Yeah, I understand what he means. It's just now my iridescent planet is not iridescent. It's kind of beige! Booo.

Alex, 350,000 words? How on earth did you have time to write that as a teenager?

message 771: by Carole (new)

Carole P. Roman | 4665 comments Mod
I'm intrigued. Do I count?

message 772: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Carole wrote: "I'm intrigued. Do I count?"

Always.

message 773: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Alex wrote: "I was as bereft of a social life as a teenager as I do now, lol, so I had plenty of time for writing. ..."

I ended up on stage. It was one of the few times I had a social life.

message 774: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments I loved it. Some performances were more comfortable than others.

message 775: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Despite my best efforts I cannot get my cover for Iridessian Haunts to display on the Radish thumbnail. It shows up fine when you click on the book and it looks fine on the system. I've used their recommended sizes, I've gone a few pixels smaller. I have emailed them.

How am I supposed to get that into their Halloween collection if I can't get the thumbnail to display in the way every other book does?

message 776: by Carole (new)

Carole P. Roman | 4665 comments Mod
Write Maia or Sophie- If you need their email- let me know.

message 777: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Ah everyone who’s anyone does an in-between story at some point. Call it 3.5. Be fine. You’ll fix it.

message 778: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments No idea how they number them. I know they exist. I’ve read some. I’m sure you’ll sort it.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Alex, is there a way to lift out one story line and use it in Book 5? I know it's not that simple, but is it possible? Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Hugs

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments I'm confident you'll work it out successfully, Alex. Hugs

message 781: by Aislinn (new)

Aislinn Barnes and Noble only sell in the USA. I'm Australian, and I can't buy books there. As far as I know, nor can people in the UK. That's why they can only give you US rights - because they are only authorised to operate in one country. I'm not sure why you thought they'd be different for self-published authors?

Not sure why you won't publish through Amazon, but since that's the biggest (worldwide) market, you'd have the best luck there.

Either way, if you're not Amazon exclusive, you should always try to sell through multiple vendors, not just one. No one would make enough money JUST selling through Kobo or B&N. You have to spread it out.

Anita Dickason (anitadickason) | 220 comments Smashwords is considered as an international distributor. I just completed the set up of my titles with Nielsen Title Editor in the UK and that includes all three versions of each book (hardback, paperback, and digital). Nielsen only accepts titles that are distributed by an international distributor. IngramSpark and Smashwords are on the list, Amazon is not. Amazon's international distribution is only to Amazon websites. The Extended Distribution Channel is only in the US.

I would recommend Smashwords, and opt out of the distribution channel for Amazon.

Even though, my ebook is distributed by IngramSpark, I am going to load to Smashwords. Ingram distributes to Baker and Taylor (libraries) but not to Overdrive (ebooks for libraries). Smashwords does and I can opt out of all the distribution channels except for Overdrive.

message 783: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments What they said CeDany. I’m on Smashwords too and am
distributed to the other non Amazon ones through them. It does mean you only have to fill everything (finance stuff) in once and they set it up. I find their formatting for their upload a pain in the backside, but there’s an free ebook that spells it out. Can I ask-why not Amazon though?

message 784: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Just a minor Grrr. I don't know where to turn for Radish Fiction promotion. I've just contacted a couple of places.

Anyone who has the Radish fiction app please do me a favour just go to the app and Iridessian Haunts in paranormal and click on the first chapter. It won't cost you anything, but at least it'll make me feel like I'm not the only one who has looked at it. You don't even have to read it. I just want it to say something other than "1 views" when I check on it.

Carole P. Roman | 4665 comments Mod
Sorry about it, Alex. I'm praying for you both.

message 786: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Ugh again? And still no answers? Usual thing- hope she’s better soon, hope they find out why soon, yada yada yada.

Honestly it’s head stuff. Why can’t they figure it out?

done too- but I'll read later, Amy

message 790: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments At least there’s somewhere to have a Grrrr. Doesn’t matter if it’s the same one.

Thanks Carole I really appreciate it.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments So sorry about you Mum, Alex. Praying for her healing and for your comfort while you worry. Hugs

message 792: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments http://www.nook.com/gb/notice It's Sainsbury's who took over the content of Nook in the UK.

It sounds like they withdrew the service 18 months ago and haven't updated parts of their sign-up procedure. That's sloppy.

I'm sure you'll sort it out.

Lol don't panic. They do this with every single Little Fart book. Because the titles are similiar. They publish it, then suppress it, then I send them a snarky email about how incompetent and stupid you would need to be to not see that they are A. different books, B. different titles, and C. All on different ISBNs.

message 798: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Ugh as my Dad would have said "Rip off Britain." Her having enough money doesn't help you unless she's pays you. Then you might find she doesn't have enough money to live on.

message 799: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments It is a stupid process. How long was the phone interview for PIP? I've been told I should apply for me.

message 800: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Thanks. I'll get onto that in a couple of weeks. I need to get ahead on other things before I have a 20 minute phone conversation. How long did it take for them to answer?
