This thread is spoiler appropriate? Also, does anyone know how much influence LucasFilm/Disney has on the story and interludes? I am just curious if Chuck Wendig decided the subject of each interlude or if any were given to him.
Understanding that the Story Group is definitely "seeding" various future potential stories throughout all of their properties, I would say some were given or suggested to him. And, yes, I would also like to know if this is a spoiler-appropriate thread, because a couple of those interludes seemed like they were absolutely foreshadowing important things that happen in the huge 20-year "hole" we currently have between Empire's End and Bloodline.
Sweet. Thanks Aaron. I assumed it'd be ok, just wanted to make sure.I liked most of the interludes. In the other books, they were nice, but at this point I felt we were far enough into the story to not really need "and in this corner of the galaxy" updates. I didn't like the Return the Crystals interlude or the Tatooine interlude. With the latter, maybe I was reading too much into it, but I was guessing that guy would be revealed to be Boba Fett in the end, but when it wasn't, it was a let down.
I heard about the Jar Jar interlude prior to reading it (well, I've now got 50 or so pages left in the book), and I was a slightly annoyed with what I heard. I felt if it was The Story Group telling Wendig to write that story, I'd say fine. But if it was Wendig who took it upon himself to write it, I'd be bothered. I felt it would be another example of Wendig inserting his own whimsy into the canon in a way that didn't serve the SWU. After reading it, regardless of who originated the idea, I did like the Jar Jar interlude. I think this outcome could be a logical progression of things after ROTJ. Not what I would have expected, but there's no problem with that. It was well written, so I was pleased. I like how Jar Jar kept his positive attitude. Jar Jar is the type of being who would find a way to be happy in whatever circumstance he was in, and probably wouldn't really care if he was a senator or a clown. He'd be himself regardless.
Otherwise, they were fine. If it was pertinent to the story, I liked it.
I wasn't sure I'd like the Jar Jar interlude, but it was fine. It essentially showed Jar Jar is back to where he was before Episode I.
I agree completely with the Jar Jar interlude. When I started reading it, I was thinking "NOOOO not this idiot again!" but it was just fine. I hope that's the end of Jar Jar.I'm really curious what role Eleodie Maracavanya will play in future books/comics/anything seeing as how a whole faction of pirates neither aligned with the New Republic nor the Empire remnants/First Order seems pretty important.

I liked that in terms of story, but I was bothered by "zhe" and "zher" being interspersed all over that interlude with no explanation.
I stick with my previuos comment, Interludes are one of the best parts of this series but Lando's is probably one of my favourite.I also agree with Eric and Dante, i really like Eleodie Maracavanya, i want to learn more about her.
Aaron wrote: "Stories within a story. What Interludes were your favorites?"My favorites were about the Acolytes of the Beyond because they were a representation of Darth Vader's dark legacy. What do you think of the Acolytes of the Beyond? Do you think they are the precursors to the Knights of Ren?

Look on the bright side. At least Jar Jar has been disgraced beyond repair in the eyes of the galaxy. That made me smile.
I wasn't a fan of the Jar Jar interlude at all. It was like Wendig was trying to make people feel bad who didn't like Jar Jar.While I liked the interlude about the pirates, I had a hard time remembering the previous interludes about them. I also wonder where they are going with that.
My favorite interludes were about the Church of the Force and the Acolytes of the Beyond. I'm really curious to see where those stories go, especially the Acolytes.
One of the interludes was with the game Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption with the Eclipse. If the First Order got that it would make their super star destroyer "Ravager" a gnat to the Eclipse.

I agree Scott, some of the most interesting things from the book for me lay in the stuff about tge Alcolytes of the Beyond.
Those are probably the remains of Papatines Sith Alcolytes in his archives probably. Or they were remaining partial Sith on another world. What I do know is the academy Luke Skywalker created will ultimately defeat them. The Sith have always lost and always will.
Advisor Yupe Tashu played an interesting role overall in trying to preserve Palpatines legacy and teachings in the dark side, plus his interactions with Gallius Rax were intriguing.
