Tabitha Vohn Here's what I've accomplished so far:

Salzburg--The Sound of Music
Concord, MA--visited Alcott's "Little Women" home & school (the home looked just like the 94' film!)
Baltimore, MD & Philly, PA (visited 2x Poe houses & his grave)
Dakotas--visited Laura I. Wilder's "Little House on the Prairie/The Long Winter" home & school
Florida Keys--Hemingway's House
Portland, ME--Longfellow's lighthouse & house

This summer I'm visiting Top Withens (supposed site of Wuthering Heights). Holla!

What "literary" places have you seen?

Oh! I like this idea!

I definitely did Poe's grave in Baltimore. But I am not sure if I ever went anywhere else.

Benjamin Kuttner | 19 comments I really like this idea of book tourism! Here's a few I've visited:
Baker Street, London - Sherlock Holmes
Louvre in Paris - Da Vinci Code
NY, Manhattan and Bronx - Bonfire of the Vanities
Stratford on Avon - Shakespeare's home town
Gion Tea Houses, Kyoto (Japan) - Memoirs of a Geisha
Istanbul - From Russia With Love
Gorky Park in Moscow - Gorky Park
Kings Cross station London - Hogwarts Express.

I would love to put on the list for the future a tour of Los Angeles Raymond Chandler locations (I may have already been to a few and not even realized it!).

Cendaquenta I've been to Sarehole Mill in Birmingham which apparently inspired parts of the Shire in The Lord of the Rings - it's now the site of the Middle-Earth Weekend festival.

Spent a fair bit of time in Fitzrovia, London, very near the house where Virginia Woolf once lived.

Also visited Greyfriars Kirkyard once or twice, which of course is where Greyfriars Bobby lived. Lots of stories based on him.

Next time I'm in London I plan to visit Dennis Severs House, which inspired Brain Selznick's book The Marvels.

Poor Poe: All his "sites" are in the volatile areas of each city. My fave memory of the Poe House in Baltimore was watching the curator open the front door, just the tiniest smidge, to let a touring couple out, and then SLAM the door shut :P
