How are they different/unique?
I'm not sure what the headers look like, and I've really never added anything fancy to my books so I can't honestly say how to do it. I did add pretty little hearts as my scene breaks, and that was using clip art within Word. Here's a link to Amazon's formatting guidelines.

Sorry for not being clearI took screenshots comparing the "three years left" one of Dear Agony and then another two of a book that doesn't do it. For the Dear Agony one, you can see that it looks like they had black with white outlined letters, which makes it look decent on any color page.
For the other, it is a white block with the black design so on the black page it is the white block which looks a little weird.
Here are the screenshots
@Mr Jordan: Thanks for posting this publicly and sorry for the delay in my reply!! Okie dokie...
JPGs do not support transparent backgrounds, so it always gets converted to white by default. PNGs and GIFs, on the other hand, DO support transparent backgrounds so if use embed those as your headers/images then it'll look good regardless if you're reading on a white, cream, or black background setting. Buuuut this only holds true for EPUB and PDF.
KDP converts all images that are over a certain size to reduce file size. I believe it's 150px width but don't quote me on that haha! The point is that if you use a PNG with a transparent background that's too big, KDP will automatically switch it to JPG, which means no transparency again, eh? So you'll have to test it to find the smallest possible size you can scale an image and still maintain it's quality.
Did that kinda sorta make sense? XP
Best of luck!!
Hugs,
Ann

I just started reading Dear Agony and the chapter headers, so nice. I love that they work on any color page. Does anyone have annnnny idea how she did that? I imagine it would have something to do with formatting?
Usually they look good on a white page but then they're not so great on the black page I usually read with.
