Now let's go a bit further back. I really like Peggotty. The scene where Peggotty talks to David through a key-hole is just so heart-wrenching!

And her brother and family were a riot!!! there were times that I just could not understand what her brother was saying.. but it was too funny :)

Do you find all the money and debts and business talks dull? I have to try my best not to skip them :|

Ya it gets cumbersome sometimes but then i am fascinated with the way things used to work in England at that time. Given that in India most of our systems, especially the legal system is based on that.. it is very interesting.. :)

My thoughts so far: I was a bit hesitant to read more about David beyond his childhood phase because I had more sympathy and empathy toward the child David. I wonder if you shared the same sentiment? And I really thought his teen phase (as in still in school) was a bit dull. Thankfully it was a short one. Things got better and better as David plunged into the world once again. I had to stop myself from reading, tried to go to sleep, and failed XD
I am a bit envious that you are able to understand the legal system :P:P All I could conclude that financial situation was always bad :P...and I'm a business student :P
And the more I read about Uriah Heep, the less human he appears! He is more like a very tall Gollum, repulsive, disgusting, sly. And confound his mother, for she is also a haunting presence. And I have to say, they make such excellent villains.
When you meet Rosa Dartle, and the aunt again, ring me :P:P I love to talk about them :P
Oh and did you meet miss Mowcher?

When I started reading the book, it was like something completely new as if I had never read it. My brain was a blank slate, which I found was a good thing. However, this meant that as I started reading the book, I was wondering if the author would write this one like another Oliver Twist or similar novel and was honestly apprehensive. However, i did enjoy and could relate to that David as a kid. Ya I agree that his teenage years were a little boring but still fascinating as it brought to his life the various characters who will play an important role in his life.
I think the beauty of DC is that every character has a role, insignificant or significant is debatable, but has a role till the end. In that Dickens is a master at his character creation and development. His villians as well as his friends are both fantastic in every novel so also in this.. so it makes an excellent read.

I wonder what would happen if Mrs.G ever met Mrs.Micawber
M - I will never desert you!
G - I'm a lone lorn creetur!
M - But I will never desert you! Ever!
G - But everything goes contrarie!!!
and so on...
They should have been BFFs :P:P

Am sure this is the part where Dora starts listening to that Murdstone woman.. right???

And keep going, Sri :)

Ohhh there is a big narration by Mr. Peggoty.. am gonna faint now!!!! i couldn't understand his simple stuff.. narration is going to be really too much... Which chapter btw?

*peeps in* yay Fongy! :D *goes away worried will get scolded for spamming* .___.

Chapter 39 now.. hoping to finish quite a bit today.. lets see.. :)

Oh what a beautiful way of putting such a simple sentiment :) Isn't that true of certain things in our lives as well. For instance, the first thing that came to my mind, which I must say prompted me to put this here, is how we feel after coming online in GR. Doesn't the fact that we have friends, who will help us overcome the worst of odds make us feel better, albeit temporarily, despite the fact that actual circumstances are the same? :)

Completely agree with this :) With both i mean :P :P
Oh god, i need to read Dickens again and what beautiful writing he is capable of.
And i just realized The Great Expectations i read in school was an abridged version :| Need to read it again . And am so happy :D

And ya you should read unabridged versions to appreciate it completely :)

Finally a sigh of relief that I completed at least one BR before the month was over :P :P
Get back soon Fong so we can discuss in earnest :)

And the aunt is awesome! Her return was like a fresh breeze. I was a but surprised by her treatment toward Dora though, it was totally amiable.

Loved the aunt.. And you already know my rant regarding those two characters mentioned in the spoiler...

I totally found it wonderful. No character was given less importance but all of them grew equally, whether good or bad. And the way in which he looked at the minutest aspects of each character's personality was awesome. was it not?

What your thoughts regarding the minor characters, such a Miss Mowcher? Quite a delightful character, even though her appearance in the book was so little.

And Mr. Micawber was fantastic near the end - HEEP! :P

Ya they were idolised to a great extent by David but that did not mean that we never came across their true self... For instance, even if David idolised Steerforth and Dora, they were two characters that I did not like right from the start.
