The Nix - 5 stars, by Nathan Hill

There is definitely a lot of politics/protest in the book but if you're not heavily political, you may not make all the connections I was making because my mind is on politics a lot! And the first 30-50% is on Samuel's childhood which is crazy good and not at all about politics.

You're trying to be vague on purpose but I'm not sure which part you're talking about [do NOT read this if you want to read the book!!!] (view spoiler)

Thanks--good to know.

Put a hold for the audio at the library. I'm currently #28 on 3 copies.

After I did The Goldfinch and it's 32.5 hour audio everything seems short in comparison!

Not quite a spoiler, but I find myself having some leftover thoughts about how it all turned out - so this next section may be more useful for those who have read the book. A group of my friends are discussing this in two days, so perhaps I will have more to add or say after the discussion. But I wanted to say something about the twist/revelation near the tail end of the book. I think it just wasn't necessary to the story. The story was well crafted, beautifully written, and engaging without that element. Not that it ruined it, but I just felt it wasn't needed. And the element of deliberate duplicity caused me some pause on behalf of a specific central character. On the other hand, I can totally see how that character emerged towards change and transformation as a result of the experience borne, and I felt that ending was apt. Extremely well done!
