Steinunn (steinakg) I loved Fantastic beasts and where to find them. It was so fun to dive back into the Potter universe and I loved every bit of it. About a week after I was reading an article about Gellert Grindelwald (wanting to know more about him) it hit me. What if Ariana Dumbledore was an obscurus? It fits, how Rowling described her "bursts" and that she depressed her magic. I googled this and I found articles about this. What do you think?

Efm1 I think that the evidence is there to support the idea and that she is an obscurus.

Leah Rachel von Essen (whilereadingandwalking) I came to the same conclusion. The evidence is definitely there. My boyfriend is rereading the 7th book now and realized this and made a big point of it. It would also explain why Grindelwald was so fascinated by obscurus in the first place, and could explain more of Dumbledore's past: maybe Grindelwald wanted to see if he could harness her power, too, since it's such powerful magic. Also, if you remember, the character in Fantastic Beasts was so powerful because he was a teenager, which every other character thought was unprecedented. But Ariana was a teenager or maybe even an adult. She held in her magic due to a trauma when she was younger, and held it in a lot, so it's quite possible that she became a strong obscurus.

Annaliina | 1 comments I sas a youtube video where this was also predicted. I'm pretty sure that's the case, since that would explain both Ariana's behaviour and death and Grindelwald's knowledge of the obscurus creatures.

Megan Cheang | 63 comments It does seem likely. Hmm, maybe this subject will be explained in the films.

Mariann Borgund | 2 comments I think that you're thinking is right,Ariana is definitely an obscurus if you go by the description written by Rowling in the books and by what we learned in FantasticBeasts. I'm guessing it will be explained when we "meet" Albus later in the movies. Maybe we will even see Ariana having a burst off magic, I hope so.
So happy to see that others where happy with FantasticBeasts too,I felt so at home from the very beginning of the movie. Finally back in the wizarding world.
