I think it is. You shouldn't take someone's word for something until you know the truth and I believe that seeing it makes it true. I know this doesn't work in all situations though.

When it stops snowing (which usually around Mid to late April here) and the flowers finally come back.

Don't know if you'd count JFK as a "celebrity" but his assassination definitely affected me.

I was very sad to hear of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales. I remember being glued to the television to watch coverage. We were vacationing in Canada at the time, and stopped at a local post office to sign a condolence book.
