Dead to the World question

Hi!
I'm not a big fan of the Sookie Stackhouse books, to be honest I expect better writing, even from guilty pleasures. But after watching the show (True Blood) I'm a big fan of Eric Northman, so I'm very thankful to the author for dreaming him up. And now I'm looking for more books with characters like him. (But books with better prose than the source material.)

I don't mind if it's a little trashy and a guilty pleasure, it just has to be a little better written than Harris's books.(of course, no offence meant to anyone who loved her books, I'm happy if you liked it.)

Anyway, Eric is honestly everything I'm looking for in a leading man. He can be dark, cold, violent, sarcastic, funny, and indifferent, but he's also incredibly honest and loyal when it comes down to it. He would die for you, but without being mushy about it. There's just so many layers to him, and when he finally shows some emotion, it really means something.

But even when he is protective and a little territorial, it doesn't devolve to over the top teenage hysterics and crazy mushy proclamations that makes you want to throw up sugar. Like I said, he's my favourite kind of antihero to read about, because when he finally says something from the heart, it packs a punch.

Anyhow, TrueBlood is over (I was late to the party) and now I'm in withdrawal. I desperately want to read about a character like Mr. Northman (but in a leading role) someone who is morally gray, stoic, violent, foul mouthed, sarcastic, bad ass, but fiercely loyal to those who deserve it, reserved, but who has a deep capacity for love, even if it's seated far within, and who is better at showing it with deeds than with words.

Does anyone know of a book with a leading man like that? :)

And also I would greatly appreciate it, if this character had some really hot and steamy love scenes. ;)
Can someone please recommend a book or five with a character like him?

I know that it's probably to much to ask, to find this type of hero paired up with a smart and kick ass heroine who isn't whiny/TSTL (or paired up with an equally awesome second hero, I don't mind M/M) but if it is possible to recommend a book where one character is like Mr. Northman, and the other lead is also awesome, at least a little kickass, and not stupid, PLEASE point me to this book as fast as humanly possible. :)

I don't mind dark storylines, and i don't really care what genre it's in, as long as it's also about a steamy relationship. :)

PNR/UF/Fantasy/Military/Contemporary/whatever, I don't care which, please just help me with antihero/book recommendations. :D
