Effie Kammenou (effiekammenou) | 723 comments I read this article earlier. Best advice. When I wrote my debut novel, Evanthia's Gift, I wanted to make sure I did every I could to publish the best product. It took almost three years to write. Why wouldn't I give it the treatment it deserved after all that work? I also had it professionally formatted for both print and kindle and hired a professional cover designer. Know that some say you can publish without any cost by doing everything yourself, but that is a huge mistake.

Submitting to a person or site that isn't really interested, not reading the terms and guidelines, not reaching out to people within your audience who are interested and spamming are probably the most common.

These are reasons why I read as much as I can on a site given that it's provided and if it's not I either move on or contact the person for further details.
