I would say, dramatic fiction. The story seems to center between the relationship between the protagonist, her husband and her sister-in-law, with the drama from the past influencing the present.
Do you remember why the sister-in-law seduces her brother-in-law? Or why there were bad feelings between them? And do you remember what made the sil and the niece leave? Don't be afraid of spoilers, in this group they are almost required. But if you are still worried there is a way to put them in but have them "hidden." To do that, type <*Spoiler> then what you think might spoil the story for others, then type <*/spoiler>. Take out the * and you'll have it done. (view spoiler)

Oh, so that's how it's done! Thank you(:
Anyway, I can't remember why exactly (I remember something like the protagonist's brother being a scientist and too boring for the sister-in-law? Something like that), but I do remember that she (view spoiler)

I haven't found it yet, but I'm quite resigned to the fact that I may never find it :p
Eustacia--don't give up. Just bump this up periodically (say every 30 to 90 days) and keep hoping. I've had books found after longer periods than this, but I go in an bump up my books periodically, so that new members and/or returning members can see them.
Eustacia, how did her husband die?
Why does the sister-in-law move back? Is it a small town in the U.S.?
What are the occupations of the main characters?

Hi Kris! I can't recall how he died, but if I remember, he was a lawyer, and her son was also studying to become a lawyer. Um, I think the son was also studying law. I don't recall anything else about the occupation of the characters, sorry ><
I'm not sure if it's the US, but yes, it was a small town.

Thanks for the encouragement, Ann! I'll be sure to do so(:

A woman (the protagonist) here's about her sister-in-law (her brother's wife) and her niece moving back into town. The protagonist has one son (who wants to be a lawyer) and her husband (was a lawyer) recently died. The protagonist does not like her sister-in-law
After her sister-in-law and niece move back, her son is accused of rape by her niece. (The niece is a daughter from another marriage). As the son's dad was a lawyer, the lawyer community rallies behind him.
Meanwhile, the book jumps back and forth between now (what really happened between son and sister-in-law) and the past (what made sister-in-law and daughter leave?). SPOILER ALERT: Turns out the sister-in-law seduced the protagonist's husband, although he regretted it after a while.
I think in the end the son is found not guilty.
I read this book a few years back (probably about four or five years ago?). I've been wracking my brain to try and think of the title, but no luck.
Thanks in advance for the help!
