Well my idea was that they both get into some kind of trouble and Evelyn sees William in even more trouble than she is, so she reluctantly transforms and saves him. Then once they're out of danger, she explains the dragon-bond and suggests they do it together so they don't have to always worry about the other.

Me neither, that's more your department. I was thinking it'd have to do with his overconfidence, like he thinks he has something under control only to realize that he doesn't, but he doesn't want to admit it.
