"Bologna is a product that the USDA insists must be "comminuted" or reduced to minute particles, so that you can't recognize the flecks of lard in it. You might as well call it lard paste."

Ewww!
I'm also on chapter 3. Would continue reading tonight if I wasn't so tired. I'm enjoying it so far.
Oh my gosh..It's just so awful how Jasmin was bullied by her classmates...makes me remember how high school was. Kids can be so cruel.
The experience that Jasmin had with Dr.Lorn...It just made me cringe...It had to be one of the contributors to her overeating and gaining lots of weight, especially since she was so young when it happened.

I'm about 100 pages in. Just her college years seemed rough. I can't wait to finish.

I know - I thought that was hilarious!
I'm on page 174...so I passed that part. It was so funny!!!
That story about Rudy the rooster at Coming Home Sanctuary...That was so nice! The kind of genuine compassion the people who work there must have...wow....
All her talk about the dairy, egg industry made me feel so guilty about being a vegetarian! I had heard that before...how the meat industry can't exist without the dairy industry and vice versa...so some people claim that being a meat eater is just as "bad" as being a vegetarian. If only I had the will power...

Thirty three pages left! I find that towards the end of the book, it gets pretty boring. I feel like she's going on and on about the same thing, just saying it in different ways. It's like okay...I get it!

Yes, it's definitely inspiring, that's for sure! What a transition she went through!
I really like how she describes the meanings for all her tattoos.

Ohh my gosh...I almost cried...how she talks about her relationship with her grandmother and her being her soulmate and the one person who got her...and when her grandmother died, she lost that...:(
I find it really takes a while to get through...I finally finished!
At the beginning of the book, I thought wow, this book is pretty good...I'd give it 4 on 5 stars...but then the more I read, the more it dropped to 3 stars. If that chunk of the book at the end was as good as the first half, I'd give it 4 for sure. Overall I liked it though!

I just remembered something. So Jasmin loses all this weight by juicing. I was wondering what everyone's opinion on juicing was. In my opinion, I find it extreme and unhealthy. Although if it is in fact proven to detoxify your body, I can see the benefit. Yet you're not consuming solid food for days on end, which can't be good. As well, where are you getting your vitamin b12, omega 3, and protein from?! I think that eating a purely plant-based diet, eliminating animal foods, processed foods, sugar and oil is detoxifying enough as it is!

I've thought about doing a cleanse. There are so many juice places here in Portland, but the fear of running to the bathroom makes me scared, Plus I like food. I do believe you would miss out on certain nutrients. Plus, all that sugar cannot be good for you. Even if i it is natural.

As I read it I felt like somehow I had completely missed out on the juice-fast fad...I imagine some will swear by it for weight loss but I think most nutritionists advise against extreme measures and eliminating entire food groups.
After reading this I did, however, feel motivated to try to commit to some less drastic improvements to my overall eating habits.
I have just under 100 pages left. I can see how it is getting boring. It seems like she goes back and forth between from current to past events. It gets kind of confusing. I am glad she was able to change her life, but with all this juice cleanse talk it is concerning. Ten days one month then three the next. That seems a bit drastic. Oh, and the age difference in her partner. That is a big gap almost 30 years. Wow! Good for her.
Okay just finished. The later part dragged on, but I still thought it was a good book. It was amazing how so changed her life.
