Oh potatoes!
Where would I be without you today?
You are my inspiration for life itself,
For you can do anything.
When I eat you,
my mouth cries in delight
It's like Im in heaven.
You can create electricity
And now I feel the sparks between us
Without you the world is nothing
No Idaho
No potato farmers
No baked potatoes
No cool science projects
No odes to potatoes
The world needs potatoes.

Floating around aimlessly
Our feet numbed by time
No longer longs for soft carpet,
Forgetting warmth and love.
Eyes watch but never settle.
Look for something new,
But the truth is a burden.

I stare as you wilt,
Crumbling, tumbling.
Giving up your beauty to time
You're done sitting in a vase.
I save you, rescuing you
From death with new use.
You are still beautiful to me
Be still and dry your stem.
Now you lay with your friends
But you are new, different than before.
You are stiff, fragile
My touch makes you crumble away
What a pretty flower you are.

White is the mother.
She is pure above all else
Living perfectly no matter what
Black is the father.
He is very mysterious,
Living his life in the shadows.
Red is the passionate.
She never holds back,
Standing tall she lifts her head up
Orange is playful.
He's young and innocent
Always doing as he pleases
Yellow is the happiest sibling.
Her soul reflects the sun,
Constantly glowing and shining bright.
Green is nurturing.
He spends him time outside
Giving life to plants everywhere
Blue is responsible.
She is calming and helps her family,
Pulling them out of the hole they dug.
Purple is romantic.
He charms everybody with his mystery
Always acting regal and tempting.
Pink is the sweetest.
She spreads love and kindness,
Keeping everyone happy.
Brown is the family pet.
Even though he's often ignored,
he holds the family together

I think this was meant to be,
But we can't know yet.

Im tired
Of being your jester.
I've been the clown.
Now it's your turn.
Tell me a joke,

People I love are never pushed away,
They are safe,

Hi Maple! Ok so I read all the poems here and now I'm obsessed oh well :DI really loved Perserved Beauty because the way you used a crumbling, wilting flower as a metaphor for love that survives through time got my feels acting up ahhhh :') Also your last poem was PERFECT. It's so empowering and vivid!!

I always get back up,
Smile through the pain,
And never get mad.
It doesn't mean Im not hurting.
It takes a lot,
Holding all this back.
You don't see,
You don't know.
People who show it get pity,
They get love for a crutch.
Me, I get nothing.
Absentminded hugs and short hellos
I wish you saw it all,
Knew all my pain.
There's a landfill under my park,
Buried under pretty happiness.
All I want, all I need
Is the love you give.
I may be special, but I want the real deal,
Give me the love you give them.
I just need to know,
I need to feel your love always.
It gives me comfort,
It gives me strength.
You better believe Im insecure.

Shimmering, shining
always after rain.
Lifting up sorrowful souls
In the simplest of ways.
All the colors
Red, orange, yellow,
Green, Blue, Purple,
Hold their own in the world.
"Bright days are here,"
They sing.
Enjoy the beauty
Before the next storm.

Out there, in the world
You will find a desert.
It's a big city, bustling around
But I own that place,
My home town.
At night you see amazing things,
The performers sing,
Doing their dances and little tricks.
People from all over come to see
In the day you see crowded streets,
Appointments and business as usual
Then the children come from school
Running ramped through the city
At night we've settled down,
City lights shimmer on the horizon
As families get together and enjoy the evening.
Maybe one of our coyotes will howl
This is my desert,
My childhood,
My heart,
My city.

The storm is here.
The connection is breaking up
And all I can think is buzz.
It echoes through my head
Everything else lost
As if a hurricane blew it away.
Not just silence but a buzz
That never ends,
Not until the storm passes.
Sleeping lulls the monster,
But Im not tired
Since everything is in turmoil
It quiets down
Until there is nothing left.
I can think again.
My mind picks up the pieces,
Connecting wires again.
Making itself ready.
Storms come crashing in
At the worst of times
Flooding my mind when I must think.
Then all I hear is a buzz.

Picking four leaf clovers,
Searching the ground for pennies-
Heads side up of corse.
No black cats
No ladders to walk under
No broken mirrors.
Coast is clear.
No bad luck to stop us now.
But it doesn't matter.
We all trip and fall you see?
We all mess up
Bad luck is a natural thing.
Use your penny to buy some candy
And that cat could use a home.
It's not so bad to relax a little.
Don't worry about luck.
The universe might give you some.
What goes around comes around.
