Rosy Maylor | 8 comments Maybe this is a silly question but... When posting an excerpt or flash fiction blog post to goodreads - how explicit can it be? I don't want to get myself into any trouble! Or give offense!

I guess this isn't really an answer but I do know that people are eligible for a good reads account at the age of 13 and blog posts are not required to set an age restriction like groups can do so there is a chance that someone under the age of 18 may read it.

Amanda Siegrist (amandasiegrist) Good question, Rosy! And I'm sorry to say I can't really answer that because I'm not sure. hahaha. I'm not much help. *sits in the corner*

My blog (on my website) is connected to my GR's blog, so I do have cuss words on there, but I've never really posted any sexually explicit so I've never looked into it.

Putting a warning at the beginning is something you could possibly do. Something simple and sweet...or...er...not sweet, but you know what I mean. lol.

Rosy Maylor | 8 comments Right? I've looked around at some blogs and they do seem to have adult content... But maybe linking to my site is a better way to go. The nature of my content is a little darker than the norm. I really don't want to offend or upset anyone.

Hiya, Miss Rosy!

*waves happily*

Technically, GR doesn't allow explicit content since readers as young as 13 can be on here. So that's why we enforce the no cuss/crude rule in our group. And I personally censor the swear words on my GR blog posts but I just do a "preview" and link to my actual site with the rest. My stuff is pretty whacked as well so you can take a peek if you need an example of how to censor. I won't post a link here but I'm easily findable (Holy crap! Findable is a legit word!! Who knew? haha)

With that said, GR never actually checks our blog posts so you could get away with anything LOL

Hugs,

Ann

Jane Blythe I think a warning, and then posting just a preview, censored if necessary, and then the link to your blog should be a-okay!

And hmm, lovemaking scenes aren't really an issue for me, but I should probably be careful about all the violence in my flash fictions in case any kiddies stumble upon it!!

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 118 comments I think it's up to parents to control their kids' web habits, not you. (Goodreads rules aside.) I have a 13 and a 15 y/o. Post what you want.

And think about it. How old were you when you read your first romance, eh? ;)

Hmm. This made me think of something semi-related...

If you run a site that's NOT self-hosted (Blogger is a prime example) then they often force you to have an "Adult Content/Age-Restricted" warning, since it's their butts on the line. It's like a gateway page where visitors have to click "Agree" to access the site. You see this a ton with book bloggers, especially in romance. Since we're so smutty and all ^_~

If you go self-hosted, you can totally do whatever the heck you want... *smirks*

EDIT: Ehhh, that's not to say you should do whatever you want on a self-hosted site. Just that it's unlikely anyone will report your site and have it shut down. Cuz I reckon nobody cares that much about our individual little author websites LOL

Personally, I still put a warning to comply with censorship regulations *shrugs*
