One minute he kicked her out of the hospital room, and a few pages later he knocked on her door. What made him see the light and go to her. We didn't get to see it.
It was definitely rushed. One minute he's almost dying to save her, the next he's kicking her to the curb.
There were two months in between their separation. Supposedly, his time at Walter Reed made him see the light. I would have liked to be part of that experience rather than be told it happened.

I was totally ticked when he kicked her to the curb. He didn't even give her a chance to thank him for saving her life. He was totally selfish in thinking that he knew what was best for her and it wasn't him.
Definitely too rushed. He jumps from saving her to letting her go because he may lose his leg. Then he comes to his senses without us getting to know what made him see the light. As Laura mentioned, Gerard should have showed us what happened, not just told us.
Gabe was being selfish when he thought he was selfless; let the woman make her own decisions, for crying out loud!
