Sarah (sarahlittlecornerforbooks) How do you get out of reading slumps? I am currently in one.. . . Can't read a book as good as CoHF;)

Red (littleredreader) If I'm in a reading slump, I don't force books. If I've given it a fair shot and it's just not working for me, I put it down. Otherwise it will only make the slump worse and it might ruin a perfectly good book.

Try reading novellas, since they're shorter and much easier to get through, that can be a real life saver.

Also, go with something completely different from what you previously read. Shock your mind basically.

Also, reading things that are light fun reads help. One of my slumps, The Selection pulled me out of it. It's fast to get through and it was just fun, not too serious, not demanding. For being a book I didn't think I'd enjoy, it was perfect for a reading slump.

Eventually, something will get your interest. You might just have to pick up and put down 20 billion books til you find it.

I have the same problem. I'm trying to get back into reading by reading a light, contemporary called "The Art of Lainey"

Sarah (sarahlittlecornerforbooks) Cool! I'm trying another contemporary as well:)

Red has a lot of great points.
I would add, that you should reread a fave book. That often helps. Or you could reread a childhood fave, like a nancy drew book.Other tips
-read a standalone
- read an anthology
- read a short story( 250 pages istead of 300\400,thers even some books with 110 pages)

I suggest reading happy contemporaries when in book slumps

I absolutely agree. Contemporaries get me out every time!

Generally that's the way it goes. I have too many books--I feel generally revolted with words. I confess. Ack. Primarily I recover by talking, or writing in my diary, logging onto Pinterest or Goodreads, or recommending that our family watches television. It's'good to have these recommendations!

Same here. Contemps do it perfectly. Especially romantic ones... :)

Lawrence Ambrose (ambrose2014) | 21 comments Maybe I'm crazy, but I read nonfiction sometimes to pull out of my fiction doldrums. Science, autobiography, even philosophy. ;)

Aliza (alizaf) | 301 comments i'm in kind of a book slump right now :(

message 14: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina (forebodinq) Short, fast-paced books are good for me. Usually contemporaries, since there's not a lot of world-building or new terms to get used to.

message 15: by Aisha (new)

Aisha (aisha_i) I am in such a reading slump right now. I don't know what to read. I was reading The Graveyard Book and another book for review, but I am just not feeling them at the moment. I think it's time to crack open Fangirl
