Quantum (quantumkatana) Over the last couple of years, there's been a real explosion in the popularity of audiobooks. Have you embraced the wave?

I just recently listened to Carmilla as a Librevox recording (Librevox is free) narrated by Elizabeth Klett. I really liked it and think that listening to this kind of 19th century writing style is preferable to reading it.

What are you currently listening to? What are your favorites? Do you have your favorite narrators? I heard Meryl Streep (sp?) narrating a short story once and her ability to change her voice to match the different English accents was just amazing.

Alex G,

I only listen to an audio book if I am driving on a long road trip, which I do often. Like print books, audio books on CD are borrowed from the local library. I only purchase one if I am certain to want to read or listen to it more than once.

My favorite audio book is Where the Red Fern Grows, the author of which is Wilson Rawls. It is narrated by the actor Richard Thomas, who does an excellent job. I believe the training and requirements associated with their profession make actors uniquely suited to narrate audio books.

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) | 46 comments I am listening to the audio of Lady Chatterley's Lover which is quite good- the narrator does the various English/Cockney accents well. My favorite audio book that I've listened to would be The Exorcist which was read by the author himself! SO well done. --Jen from Quebec :0)

Marie Silk | 1025 comments Oh wow, The Exorcist sounds scary!

I'm ashamed to say I'm not completely sure how the new audiobook downloads work. Can you put them on your phone and listen in your car? The last time I listened to audiobooks was back in the cassette tape deck days :D.
