Moses (greenteacup) | 2 comments Hey,

Am i the only one, who got problem choosing a fiction book to read? I find myself browsing for a long time at the Fiction section, always find it hard to settle on a book to read.

I tend to read non-fiction, or "classic" fictions more.. I am trying to expand the genre, and read from different topic now.

How do you select? :)

Thanks in advance!
M

Justine Laismith (justinelaismith) | 25 comments When I explore a new genre, I tend to look at the award winners as a starting point. Listopia here in Goodreads will give you lots of ideas.

Santhi | 1 comments I used to stick same authors but now have expanded to more writers. Not sure what was the exact turning point. I select plots which appeal to me. Usually I can't resist series. Classics are great choices if you enjoy them. Why not try Storied Life of A J Fikry to see if you like such genre?

Ryu | 7 comments I think you can start off by reading fiction books that have some relation to the non-fiction books you're reading. For example, if you enjoy reading history books, try out some historical fiction like The Book Thief. As Justine has suggested, check out the award winners too as they tend to have a more classic feel to it.
You can also try out books based on your age group.
I highly recommend Agatha Christie, a crime fiction author. One of her works, And Then There Were None, would be a great starter.
Hope this helps.

Evan | 30 comments Choosing books for me is very easy. I look at book tubers on Youtube and i choose from there. I don't typically read non-fiction but I want to read them. I read 3 non-fictions books conservatively. From Daily Show Trevor Noah. He interviews them and I just feel like reading. I read all genres so choosing books is not that hard.

Felicia (riversidemuses) | 2 comments Hmmmm i choose my books in a few different ways based on my mood. Serendipity works well, I just walk through bookstores or check out the new arrivals shelf at the library. If a cover or title catches my eye, I will take note of it and check out the reviews on goodreads to see if it might be something I am interested in.

I also go for readalikes - if I like a certain book, I will rely on algorithms to tell me what other books are similar or what others who liked the book are reading. Amazon and goodreads do this quite well. If I find a reviewer in goodreads who has similar or interesting taste, I will follow them.

It also helps to build a community of friends who read (can be virtual) so you can regularly recommend books to each other. After a while, you will know each other’s preferences and can then make good recommendations. I do this regularly too and push titles to friends and colleagues.

Hope this helps. :)

Dhana Latchmi Mahesh (latchmigirl) | 5 comments My choice to look for books in the past is to just walk about the bookstore or the library. I'll pick out interesting looking book and read summary and description that's usually written in the back of the book.

Nowadays, I base my search on lists that's widely available online from goodreads to other sites such as: http://bestfantasybooks.com/ (my favourite search site for my favourite genre at the moment).
