I have hundreds of unread books on my shelves.I used to read a lot more when there was no internet and no smartphones. Now a good deal of my leisure time is taken up by movies,TV shows and the internet. Is reading still your preferred recreational activity ?

Gone are the days when there was nothing on tv so I'd pick up a book! I still read on my lunch break, when having a bath and more in the summer when it is warm, I sit outside reading.
I prefer a book to watching the tv so for me I read all the time... if I could that is. So yeah for me I read pretty much everyday... but am afraid I do have books I haven't even started due to the fact I like to re-read certain books also if I am in a mood for a certain genre I'll just pick up a book in a series and plough through lol so really even if I read every day I still most likely will have a pile of books that I haven't started yet but that's what I love about books and reading
I am retired and read every day. But I do spend time on the internet and watching tv. I have 1500 books on my kindle.
I'm retired, too, and always have a stash of physical and Kindle books (close to 40 at the moment) on hand.Anytime I'm not doing something that requires both hands, I have a book in one. So I read when I'm watching TV, eating, or even, um, using the loo.
So life, the internet, television, smartphones, and the like don't cut into my reading time at all.
Retired, shelves full of unread/half-finished books, not to mention the 1300 books on my kindle.I read while watching tv or eating. I try to spend an hour a day just reading - not multi-tasking. I think I used to read more when I worked. I read 30-40 minutes commuting each way, read at lunch.
Retired from teaching, but working many hours a week online reading and grading essays for academic tests. I don't have much time and my eyes get tired from online work.
There is never enough time for anything, and reading does not get top priority.Priorities are:
1) Work
2) Family
3) Studies
4) Exercise
5) Friends
6) Reading
It just isn't enough time.
Priorities 1, 2 and 3 intertwine to some degree. I work so that I can be able to care for my family and I study to get better at my job so that I can get better positions.
So these three priorities get 100 per cent of my focus. If I got time left, I run, ski, bike; whatever.
I got time left? Good. I call a friend.
Still got time left? Ok, I'll sleep a bit less and read for half an hour.
Thank God for audiobooks.
PS! I don't watch TV anymore. No time.
