ABANDONED. Hero and heroine correspond through letter

In the story...hero is a soldier in war. During war he and heroine correspond through letter. After war gets over he comes back to England and try to find heroine coz sometime back her letters stop coming.
When he meets her, he is shocked coz she is an opium addict now and in a very bad condition.
This all I know...I have not read this before...wanted to read it forgot to bookmark.
