Taking a page out of Cari's playbook, here's an interview last year with the author of this month's book selection Colson Whitehead, not long after the book was published. What's interesting is that the other books by this author (I have read any of his yet, The Underground Railroad will be my first by him) are all in different genres. He likes to mix things up. FYI

These are great. I love how the style for this novel was influenced from Gabriel Garcia Marquez, most specifically from One Hundred Years of Solitude. I also love the literal metaphor of a railroad for this book. It was a clever use of incorporating fantasy into history.
