No, but I love this idea!

That is a great idea. I'll see what we might come up with -- perhaps a challenge of some sorts .

I have both Silas Marner and Romola, and I wouldn't mind joining in for either of them.
I would be interested in reading some George Eliot throughout next year too. I haven’t read anything of hers and I was already planning on reading Middlemarch sometime next year.
I am happy to see so many of you interested in George Eliot!
Aubrey: have you read Romola? If so, did you enjoy it? That's one I've never read.

I've read neither of the books I mentioned. Thus far I have read Middlemarch, Mill in the Floss, and Daniel Deronda, and I greatly liked all of them.
I have a question about the nomination process: are we allowed only one nomination overall, or one nomination per category?
Melanti wrote: "One per category."
Thanks, Melanti!
Thanks, Melanti!
Terry wrote: "Where can this group’s read shelf be found?"If ur on the desktop, it's one of the links in the upper right corner. Not sure right now how it appears on the app.
In any event, here's a link to the bookshelf:

Thanks, MK. I generally use the app on my IPad, and frequently wonder what I am missing! I should just go to the website more often. I would probably get a lot more out of GR if I did that.
When I first joined goodreads I was using just the app, which is fine for reading and posting comments.I use the internet version to edit comments, link books and visit group home pages.
I often switch back and forth, depending on what I am doing.
This may have been answered but how do I link my read or currently read or to the book being read.....hmmmm, this sounds like mud but at each discussion page there’s pics of people who I assume are participating and they have the book marked as Want to Read, Read or something else. I might need a bit of a refresher in how to do this....maybe it automatically comes up as a member of the group but I don’t think that’s right. I think I have to make myself a shelf but....hmmmm, still sounds like mud....oh well maybe you can figure me out.Actually I just want the group to know I’m participating even if I don’t write anything.....I appreciate all the time the mods put into this to challenge our minds with a variety of books.
Click on the link of the title of the book. (You can find this at the beginning of any of our discussions for a book or on our bookshelf -- or you can search for the book.)
Once the page of the book is open, on the top left there is a pull down menu for "read", "currently reading," or "want to read." Choose the choice you want and it should then show up on your shelves.
Here is a link to a help page that I think might answer your question: https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

I'm a little lost -- can someone tell me which group is going to start discussing John Grisham's RUNAWAY JURY on September first?
ALLEN wrote: "I'm a little lost -- can someone tell me which group is going to start discussing John Grisham's RUNAWAY JURY on September first?"I do not think it is this group. It is not one of our monthly poll winners and also not listed in the Buddy Read Schedule thread. A search shows that our two posts are the only two that mention it on this group site. Good luck with your search.
I found out the discussion of RUNAWAY JURY will take place at Mystery, Crime and Thriller eff. September first. Thanks anyway!

is it ok for me to delete my personal challenge thread ? I find it’s not helping me and want to do things differently. Let me know when you get a chance – thanks

and I just tried Katy but this message came up “Sorry, you don't have permission to delete this topic. Please ask a moderator or site admin.”The link to my personal challenge is https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/..., if you could delete that when you get a chance that would be cool. Thanks

Your link doesn't work. If you could tell me what you named your personal challenge perhaps I could find it from the folder?

I've been reading about 40 novels so far this year. But recently I read one that blew my mind. Requiem for a dream by Hubert Selby Jr., I read it in English and found it amazing (I'm a native spanish speaker). I wanted to see if anyone here knows any novel (maybe, even, little known) that may interest me. What I liked about Selby Jr. was the fragmentary style, one could say, which brings him closer to a postmodern narrative type of literature, as well as the fact that the author seems to ignore some of the writing conventions: he writes words with grammatical errors, Instead of apostrophe (widely used in English) he uses the slash (/). Nor does it have dialogue introductions. Although there is a lot of dialogue between the characters in the novel, there are no attributions of who is speaking, which takes the reader from his passive place and forces him to give an order to the story. Once past twenty pages one already knows who says such a thing, because he already knows their motivations, typical phrases and general idiolect. The tone is finally brutal, heartbreaking I would say. This author reminded me of another of my favorite writers, for some reason: Dostoevsky. Anyway...Any suggestions?

Burroughs’ Naked Lunch should fit alongside Requiem. I read recently NL was made in a cut up style most popularly heard in Bowie’s work; and it suits the drug hallucination, the experience he is trying to communicate. I’ve never taken drugs; it didn’t encourage me to start. 😜

Do we have a place to report spam on the group threads? One here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/..., and the same one repeated on other threads.
I couldn't see what comment you were talking about Kathleen, but there is a "flag" button right next to the reply and you can mark it as spam
I have flagged a few today. Apparently it works. Very good to see. click the grey "flag" (not the *) and choose. Perhaps write what is wrong with the post.

Kathleen I guess someone else cleaned up the spam?
Hello Mods. Do you think it would be possible to have a folktale or fairytale thread? I would be happy with either. Just something like "What folktale have you just read?" Such a thread might encourage deeper cultural understanding.

Hi! I’ve noticed that when people comment with a book, the book is linked to its page. When I add the book title to my comment, it does not. How do I do that?
You click on the 'add book/author' feature, just above the comment box. I don't think this works on the app though.

Hmm, usually one just needs to remove the read date.

You and me both. I've done this once, like you I thought I was screwed because it wouldn't go away. There was a time delay and my reading challenge did correct itself. Hope it works.

Knowing which reread date to delete so that it stops ruining your history trajectory is not intuitive at all. I remember having a lot of trouble with Three Kingdoms when I was updating my review after the second volume, and I doubt I'll do much better the next time I fiddle with it. It's just as well that I'm not a big rereader or have many multivolumes in one editions on hand, as I'll probably mess it up again next time.

Is anyone aware of a group (this or any other) that is planning to read through George Eliot's works in 2019 in celebration of her 200th birthday?
