What is your overall opinion of the story? Are there any other topics you'd like to discuss?

As with many of the Bosch books, the 2nd half is better than the 1st. The buildup toward Waits' escape and Harry figuring out the conspiracy takes too long, but the climax and resolution were excellent.

The first half felt long to me, too, as I'd already "figured out" that O'Shea and Olivas were dirty. I couldn't see why there was so many hours left in the story:) When that blew up, I couldn't put the book down.

I really liked how Harry and Rachel figured out Waits' true identity. I also like how Jerry's cousin Jason figured into the story. He broke the case open by identifying Pratt.

Yes, I also enjoyed the Jason Edgar link and the way Harry handled that.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the first half of the book dragged on forever. There was too much time spent studying the murder book and figuring out what questions to ask Waits. I really didn't get interested in the story until the field trip. Then I couldn't put it down.

I was surprised when Kiz talked about quitting the force. I'm glad she's staying on, even if she is going back to her old job on the sixth floor.

I wonder if Connelly deliberately seduced us in the first half, slowly and methodically focusing everyone's thoughts on Waits while building to that twist. I remember wondering what the rest of the story was going to be about with the case solved.

Also glad that Kiz isn't quitting the force. It would be a loss, but she is right that she cannot be on the streets if she froze.
