It was discovered that Waits, using his alias of Robert Saxon, left a message with Jerry Edgar during the Gesto investigation that was never returned. Did you believe Jerry could have done something like that at the time? What do you think about their initial reactions?

While I did believe that Jerry might have made the mistake (he can be careless at times), I didn't believe that Harry would have made this error.

Both their reactions were in line with the characterization. Harry felt terrible guilt while Jerry was only thinking of the personal consequences. Typical of both men.

I agree Edgar could be lazy but it was hard to swallow that he wouldn't have at least returned a phone call. Made me skeptical from the start. You've nailed how their reactions were true to character.

The impression I got was that the call came at the end of the day and perhaps Jerry just noted it and intended to call up the information the next day but forgot. Of course, the fact that the call was fabricated (and I knew it wasn't true all along) makes it a moot point :0)

I fell for this one and believed that Jerry had noted the call with the intentions of running down the lead the next day. I thought their initial reactions to the news were right on target for the characters.
