Thanks! I do hope I can parlay this into helping others get their books considered. It took many years to get this far, more than I care to admit ;)

Since I hadn't signed a contract just yet, but got an expressed oral commitment, I had to check with whoever was taking over to see what was what. Luckily, the acquiring editor for the company at large (let's call him Q) said he knew who I was and had already seen my manuscript and liked it. Now I'm waiting on Q's opinions for the updated manuscript - the one that had the edits that P suggested to me.
At the same time, P and I talked, and he said that he would still like to sign me for a deal once he gets his own publisher established. I also semi-talked him into taking a look at some zombie fiction I wrote years ago. However, that will take a few months, he said. In the meantime, just waiting on Q to say we're still a go so I can sign a contract and make sure they are stuck with me! :)
Complications, yes. But I am hopeful this won't deter from things.

I'm sure it goes without saying, but be sure to talk about whatever it is you are working on (or have finished) as much as you can! Talk about your process, your characters, and be sure to mention any professional qualifications or personal experiences that helped you write the book. You know, make it sound authentic.
Apparently, it works! :)

Having two options is usually better than 0 or 1. Hope you'll have both options viable once P is set up and you'll make the right choice -:)

The contracts come tomorrow and I will be officially signing on with Castrum Press!

Congratulations! A 2-book deal plus a short is excellent.

Why, thank YOU. Of course, I have told them I got plans for a third book, but that will have to wait on how good book I and II do, right? :)

Ganbatte!

Also, this puts me in mind of a topic for a new thread, which would have to do with priming the market and following up on publications. Say, for example, do you try to produce lots of short stories before releasing a big one, and how do you follow up on something big - a sequel, or a series of shorter works?

Also, this puts me in mind of a topic for a new thread, which would have..."
Correct. I like it better than saying "good luck" b/c one of its implications is that to a larger degree you don't have control. Whereas saying "Ganbatte" implies that to a larger extent you do have control over your outcome and by working hard and smart you can accomplish your goals.
yes, that would be a cool thread.
Waking up this morning, inspired by your announcement, I thought of starting another thread, which would be just an announcement about resources for contract negotiations.

Also, this puts me in mind of a topic for a new thread, ..."
That DOES sound good. People need to know what they are up against and where they can get some guidance.

Here's the image I was using as a kind of concept art, which I said I thought the cover should be be based on:

Congrats and good luck! Mid-September should be good season for publication.
All seems set for cosmic pool/billiard -:)
So back in October, I was contacted by a SF press in the UK. They had heard me talking about the book I am currently working on in a FB writer's group (as I often do) and expressed interest in me joining them. Months of back and forth with manuscripts and editing suggestions followed.
A few weeks ago, on my birthday no less, I had my first Skype call with the publisher himself. We talked ideas, edits, direction, and suggestions. And by the time we were done, he let me know that they wanted to sign me for a three book deal and a short story. It was the best present I could have gotten!
Naturally, this will mean they next year or more will be pretty busy for me. However, I promise to still make time for this group, its people, and our various projects! Best of luck to everyone in their endeavors!
