D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments It does convert well. I want my 70% royalty back. So it had to be at least $2.99. £1.99 smacks of being too cheap for a regular price.

One thing I can’t get is Kobo to update their price. It says it’s done it. But it’s still saying the old price. Do they take a while?

message 3302: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments Okey dokey thanks. I know it worked when I reduced it. So I imagine I’m being impatient.

J.M. Lawler | 4 comments Hi, I'm new to this thread and it's proving to be very helpful and interesting...so thank you everyone!

Has anyone success had success with listing a book via Amazon as well as with other retailers? I like the idea of distributing wide and certainly would like to have a listing via iBooks, but it seems that if you distribute via Amazon that's it...they own you!

Thanks so much Alex!

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments I don’t sell many books and yes the majority sell via Amazon. I have sold 4 copies on iBooks since May and 1 on Kobo and normally I just don’t sell many anywhere.

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 1814 comments Hey, I'm now a "top writer" in "Fiction" on Medium! https://medium.com/tag/fiction/top-wr...

message 3309: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments Well done. That was going to happen sooner or later.

I have a speck of good news. My 18yo daughter read Missing Remnants this week. She reads a lot. I guess she reads YA which, of course, is not what I write. Apart from finding a fullstop in the wrong place and a missing speech mark somewhere which I’ll have to find and correct, she said she enjoyed it, couldn’t find any plot holes and said it made sense. She doesn’t have a vested interest in automatically heaping praise on my writing-she disagrees with me on most things in life. She’s given the paperback to her 14yo brother now who doesn’t read fiction!

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments Congratulations to both of you - I'm not sure which is the hardest to achieve.

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments Getting a top writer on Medium takes constant effort and time. It’s quite relentless to pull off especially in a large tag like fiction.

message 3312: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments Thanks Alex. I think we’re quite similar. He’s a character that spends some of his time rolling his eyes at the world and the rest of the time wishing he could slap the world round its face and tell it how stupid it’s being. That’ll be me then...

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments CONGRATULATIONS, DALE! What a wonderful achievement. Wow! Hugs!

Thanks, all!!

Anna- what happened was I was approached by a publisher who paid me to write a kid's book. They gave me the parameters- it took a few days. They did all the heavy lifting. The deal is a one-time payment and no royalties. The amount was inviting and I hope they like it enough to ask me for another.

message 3329: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments Carole - that's super (the no heavy-lifting bit!). Publishing is a gamble whether it's trad or indie and for a few days' work you've probably made the right choice.

As Alex says, please keep us informed.

message 3333: by Dale (new)

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 1814 comments I think I'm starting to build up a "critical mass" on Medium. Starting. Not only did I achieve Top Writer status in fiction last week, but my numbers have been running about twice as high as before, and in some cases higher, and I've earned over $70 for July, not including my Writing Cooperative articles, which are reported and paid separately. That's still not enough to retire on, but it's nearly three times what I had averaged for my first few months.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Dale wrote: "I think I'm starting to build up a "critical mass" on Medium. Starting. Not only did I achieve Top Writer status in fiction last week, but my numbers have been running about twice as high as before..."
Congratulations, Dale! That is awesome. I wish you continued success. Hugs

message 3335: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments That's excellent Dale. I reached $39.21 for July. I haven't written any fiction for Medium yet. Do the publications pay well? I'm not sure how they work.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Dale, I have the same question about fiction, as I've been considering publishing a couple of short stories. Any info you care to share is appreciated. Thank you. Hugs

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 1814 comments Thank you everyone, and congratulations DJ! I'v found I generally make less on fiction than nonfiction because it doesn't usually get as many readers, but a good story can reach a lot of people sometimes. I just noticed that "Zoe" (the first draft piece I wrote with comments about my writing process inserted) has garnered almost 500 claps, which is far more than anything else I've written. I'd have to check on reads and views to know how well it did in those categories.

Medium recently opened up the ability to submit Partner Program stories to all publications. (That wasn't the case before.) Some publications let you keep all the earnings. Some, like Writing Cooperative, take a cut to support their operations, which is why I don't know how much I made from them yet. I'll get that payment in around the middle of the month, as I recall.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Thank you for taking the time to share this information, Dale. Hugs

Thank you! I just found out this morning that I've also achieved "Top Writer" status for the "Short Story" tag.

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 1814 comments In a non-writing related "something good," my wife saw her hepatologist on Friday, and it looks like for the time being there is no need for a liver transplant. Some lab work is still pending, but things are looking good enough that unless something unexpected shows up, we won't have to go down that road yet. That's taken a big load off her mind.
