Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Thank you so much. If my hair wasn't currently plum coloured it would be most definitely grey!

J. Saman | 76 comments I once had plum colored (American spelling) hair. I loved it. So tell those grays to f-off. Very excited that you picked one. I'm sure it's going to be awesome!!

There's power in the tongue Alex. Stop following your positives with talks of negative. You are already setting yourself up for bad when you do that. Enjoy the good stuff and speak great things into existence. Congratulations bud!! I'm hearing great things about an eye for an eye from people who read it.

message 807: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments It is very good. I need to read the first one now.

message 808: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments I will

message 809: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments As a writer though you sort of hope you haven't peaked during your first novel. No-one wants to get worse with writing lol

Yes Alex! I can't wait to read it!!! I'm stil among my way through my TBR list. And I'll be leaving reviews and ratings as I go along

message 811: by J. (new)

J. Saman | 76 comments That's the way to be Alex. Sometimes I'll read through my writing and think...I wrote that? Sometimes that's a good thing and sometimes a bad thing. But my newest that's set to come out in the fall/winter, I read through it the other day after it came back from the editor and I was like, wow, I wrote that. It felt good. I was proud.

So really, we all need to keep growing and being proud. Because at the end of the day, we're putting ourselves out there. For better or worse. It's brave and bold and most don't have the courage. So remember that!

message 812: by Mary Ellen (new)

Mary Ellen Woods (maryellen_woods) | 76 comments Prior to yesterday, I had sold 75 novels since the book was released last November. I have like 50 followers on facebook and NO email list. I found that disappointing not to mention financially damaging.

So I decided to run a free promotion on Amazon this weekend in hopes of gaining followers and build my email list. I advertised on Twitter with the help of some amazing fellow authors in another group. I did post my freebie on all 4 author groups I belong to.

I deliberately limited my advertising because I wanted to gain data on which sites worked. I signed up for six sites to promote. It is day two and three of the sites ( choosy bookworm, ebooklister, and freebooks) are not running my promo which doesn't surprise me because I went for the freebie since I didn't want to throw more money away.

Two sites have my book listed; on freekindledeal I am the first book at the top of the list, but on awesome gang, my book only shows if you search for it by title, which is useless.

Yesterday my freebie went out in the Book Raid newsletter and I saw an immediate spike in downloads. This site is free if you get less than 20 downloads but charges 5 cents per click above that up to a max of $10, which I love because you know up front it isn't costing you too much and I had good results with them previously on a 99 cent promo.

I hoped for more than 50 downloads as my target minimum. Here is the good part... yesterday I had 97 downloads (darn it all... three more and I'd have had a triple digit day) and so far this morning I am up to 18. So I'm more than double over my minimum and have nearly 3 more days to go though I doubt I'll get as many today since the ad only runs one day on Book Raid.

My book got up to #96 on the free military romance list. It was like 15,000 or so before the promo. It was up to 2,500 in contemporary from 30,000 before and overall ranking is at 2500 for free books where I was over a million on the paid rankings before the promo. I know the rankings don't translate but still feels good that appeals enough for some people to take the time to download it. I'd hate to think I couldn't give it away...lol.

Now as my warm fuzzies wear off I will wait and see if it translates to subscribers or reviews.

Mary Ellen Woods (maryellen_woods) | 76 comments OOps...had the Book Raid info wrong...2 cents per click and you don't get charged unless it is over $1 (or 50 clicks) up to a max of $10.

I'm up to 146 downloads, so, WOOT!

message 828: by Aislinn (new)

Aislinn I'm just at the library stealing their internet (still no internet at my apartment! grrrrr). Just popping in to say congrats to everyone's good news that I've missed.

My good news is that while I've been gone I finished editing Soldiering On #4 early last week and it's currently with my editor. Hopefully I'll get it back soon. I got my finalised cover back today, so I've submitted my book for pre-order! Should be out June 30th. :D

I also wrote and edited my Christmas novella which is also now with my editor. That will be out in an anthology on Black Friday.

Now, I'm going to write an exclusive short story for the first Soldiering On boxed set, and then the 5th and final book in the series (for now).

And hopefully at some point I'll have some internet.

message 833: by Ember-Raine (new)

Ember-Raine Winters (ember-raine_winters) | 186 comments Ms. Aislinn congrats on all the awesomeness! I wish I had known we were releasing the same day because we could have done some kind of release thing together! If you're interested in doing some kind of cross promotion since our books are so similar let me know you could always come and takeover my reader group if you want to! Let me know!! And again congrats!!!!

message 834: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Hope you get some internet back soon Aislinn, although being without it can be a blessing.

Today I read through Nate and Day on my phone. I seem to be able to pick up more things to edit when I can see the words-funny that. Anyway, I came to the conclusion that it's not crap, so that was pleasing.

message 835: by Aislinn (new)

Aislinn Hey Ember, that sounds fun. I'll let you know...when I get internet. hahaha.

I'm actually finding it incredibly stressful to be without. It means I have to go to the library every day just to get my work done (and they always seem to have some kind of loud playgroup) and I have to cram everything I need to do into a couple of hours. Plus, I'm finding it hard to wind down, so my mental health is being affected. So I really, really hope it gets sorted soon.

But! Some good news. Look what's available? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072JGVQ55

I'm so pleased with the cover, and I'm really excited for everyone to read it!

Ember-Raine Winters (ember-raine_winters) | 186 comments It looks great! Congrats! And definitely let me know when your internet is back up! I'm sure my reader group would love to have you hang out with us! I hope the internet comes back up soon!!! Hugs!! (Just cuz you sound like you need one!)

message 837: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Bush | 88 comments This week I entered my first flash fiction contest @

http://www.indiesunlimited.com/

The winner can get some great exposure by being included in an anthology. Right now I'm in 2nd place, so I feel pretty good about the piece I wrote.

And, I found out tonight that my proofreader is 2/3 done with my MS for book 2. So close to publication, I can hardly wait!

message 838: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Bush | 88 comments That's a spiffy cover. (wow, does anyone even use that word anymore - lol) Congrats on the book. I'm sure you don't need it, but good luck with it!
