Goodreads "Re-Reading" option is now here!

Re-readers, did ya know? I'm kinda surprised there's no *NEW FEATURE* banner on the home page alerting members to this, but Goodreads has rolled out their re-reading option within your book review field. Re-read a book 5 times? No problem, you can enter each date range for each re-read! Yep! Check it out - here are the details Emily shared in the Goodreads Feedback group:

Rereading is here! We’ve been working on this behind the scenes for a long time, and it’s finally ready to roll out. This is one of our most requested features, and we’re thrilled to announce that you’ll now be able to track all the times you’ve read a book and have each of those dates count towards your Reading Challenge. Thank you for all of your suggestions and comments about rereading across multiple threads--they’ve gone a long way to help us build this feature.

Because rereading touches multiple parts of our database (which has more than 1.7 billion books added by 60 million members), it was a significant engineering project. We’re going to roll this out slowly, starting with the Feedback Group today. Please let us know what you think!

How does it work?

If you’ve already marked a book as Read on Goodreads, simply move the book to your Currently Reading shelf. Once you’re finished (again!), move the book back to Read. A new “date read” will automatically be added to the book, and it will be included in your Reading Challenge if you’ve set a goal this year. Any rereads will be also included in Your Year in Books at the end of 2017.

If you’d like to add more than one “date read,” you can do so in the new My Activity section on the book page for any book you’ve shelved.



You can add as many dates as you’d like, or remove the dates entirely. While the additional dates read will only appear on the desktop site, we’ll add new dates read if you move a book using the iOS and Android apps, mobile web, or the “About a Book” feature on Kindle. We’re working on the ability to view your rereads on mobile.

I was using the “Number of times read” field to track rereads. Is my data still there?

If you previously used the “Number of times read” field, all your rereads are still there. If you added a number, it automatically shows in the new feature. If you used text, we’ve appended it to the private notes section of your review. You can click on “edit review” to change any dates or add more information.

What about if I want to add the previous dates I’ve reread a book?

When you edit your review on desktop, you’ll see a brand-new “Add read date” button. If you want a book to count toward your Reading Challenge and/or Your Year in Books, make sure you add a finish date in 2017.

I was shelving different editions of a book to count my rereads. What happens now?

Rereading counts include multiple editions! You can see and find a link to other editions included in your reading count when you edit your review.



What about writing different reviews for each time I reread a book?

There will only be one text review and one rating associated with each edition that you shelve. However, you’re more than welcome to add additional thoughts in the review text space or use creative formatting to show that you’re writing another part of your review at a later date.

There is no banner, Steph, because they have said that, at this moment, it's only for feedback group (I don't know if it is true). Anyway, I think we are still in a bit of beta phase ;)

I'm not in the feedback group and I have it available...

The only thing I'm find weird is that once you add additional dates, the last day you add is what shows up in your shelves...but not sure if that's a bad thing yet, LOL!

I just checked the book page for one I'd recently read and see that the date info has changed to look more like what it looks like on the review page. Doesn't list the to-from date like before.
