I'm still working on the prologue, but I am super intrigued. This is such a stark difference from Waking Up White in that the author is explaining her youth growing up in a black community surrounded by "human computers". I'm sure once I'm through with the prologue it should read more novel-like from the perspective of one or more of the main women from the cover. I'm looking forward to continuing this book! Also, this version has discussion questions in the back, so that is a great place for everyone to take a peek as we read.

I'm normally not one to put down a book and quit but... I'm really struggling with this. There's no story, it seems like a bunch of facts mushed together to give us some interesting history but I cannot connect with any of the people, the names are all mushing together...
I think this is going to be an unfinished book, sadly. How is everyone else's progress?
