Blue Lake Academy discussion
Be it earth science, chemistry, physics, biology, or an interest like Medicine, Botany, Biology, and Chemistry come to learn it!
Aria came into the room. Huh. It's cool in here. She said. She sat next to a girl. Hello. She said to her.
Hmm. I started playing chess. I enjoy it. I love science too! What is your favorite subject though? Aria asked.
Haha Aria said. Mine too. I think talking is a good quality. Why do we have mouths if we won't use them. Aria said laughing.
Yeah. Aria said. When classes end I have to do some homework. If you give me your number on the school site then I can call you when I'm ready.
Mr. Morehouse turned around with a grin, "Hello everyone! Today we will be working on chemistry! All of you know what the Periodic table is, right?"
Class had been long. The type of long that couldn't actually seem possible. Jonas felt as though he were melting into the table. He usually like biology and found it interesting put they had the most boring substitute today. His voice was about as interesting as a white sound machine. The room was stifling hot as summer hadn't quite ended yet and the air conditioning didn't work at all. Head down on the desk, he watched impatiently as the clock ticked horridly slowly towards the end of the day. Finally the clock hit 3:45 and he jumped up from his seat. "Ready to go?" He asked, striding over to Taeyun's desk as the rest of the students packed up around them. The substitute teacher quickly struggled to hand out homework, which Jonas didn't bother to write down. He was good at remembering things.
Taeyun’s face was screwed up in concentration, trying to figure out what exactly the homework was. Usually, the teacher would go slower, and explain using hand signals and other helpful things. The substitute, however, didn’t seem to notice that Tae was in his class. Either that, or he immediately assumed everyone was English fluent. As a result, Tae was having an awfully hard time figuring anything out.
He glanced up, a bit startled. He’d been lost inside his head at the word zoology. Jonas was standing above him. Oh. Right. He folded the paper carefully and stuck it in his backpack. Tae nodded silently, a bit embarrassed at his struggles, and stood up.
{sorry my brain is short-circuiting}
Jonas watched with amusement as the other boy struggled to scribble a few more things down as the class ended. It had occurred to him very quickly by the careful way he spoke that english wasn't his first language. He hadn't thought about how hard it would be to be in an all english classroom though. Jonas wasn't the greatest in-class student of all times (as was obvious by watching him in class) but he still took a lot of notes and studied for hours after classes. He was determined to get into medical school, even if he wasn't allowed to be a doctor. "Do you want my notes after?" He asked amiably as Taeyun packed up. He smiled softly, not wanting to pressure Tae to move faster than he felt comfortable. Once he was packed up Jonas gave him another pleasant smile and led him down to the parking lot where his very, very expensive car was waiting. It was a black Lamborghini which his mother had bought him for his last birthday since he could learn how to drive this year. But since he couldn't drive yet he had a personal driver to take him everywhere he pleased.
“Yes,” Taeyun replied. “Yeah.” He wasn’t prideful; he knew he needed any help he could get, thanks to that horrible substitute. He guessed the sub couldn’t be blamed. It was Tae’s own fault that he hadn’t learned proper English yet.
As he walked with Jonas to the parking lot, he became more and more nervous about the coming appointment. Not only would Jonas see his house, but he’d be with a famous person. And Noona’s health was on the line, too. Maybe Jonas wouldn’t judge him for his ‘poverty’, but he was still worried. He was probably used to nice, rich people. Not sour, poor Koreans. Tae didn’t really have a chance. His spirits lowered even more when he saw the fancy car, and he had to outright force himself into the backseat. He was not chickening out on this.
Jonas usually sat in the front with Charlie (his driver) but not wanting to be rude, he slipped into the other seat beside Taeyun. He was oddly subdued for the fact that he was getting the appointment he wanted and just for his general circumstances. Most kids Jonas knew would have been all over him and the car already, asking questions about the car or his job or really just anything that had to do with how wealthy he was. Instead Taeyun was quiet and seemed to want to shrink into the backseat and never return."Good afternoon Charlie! This is my friend Taeyun. I think we're going to his house today?" He gave Taeyun a questioning glance as he didn't know the address of where they were going yet.
"Taeyun, this is Charlie. You can just tell him the address." He said with a slight gesture towards the front seat. Clipping his seatbelt in, he began to look through his bag and eventually pulled out his notebook of science notes. They were in neatly written font and he had about 7 pages worth from his classes so far.
"So, how was your day?" He asked as he passed the notes to Tae, trying to make conversation and learn a bit more about the other boy.
Tae fiddled with his earring until Jonas sat to him. And then, he dropped his hand. Because he felt oddly safe. The car was terrifying, yes, and the complete opposite of his life, but Jonas was here. So it was okay. He didn’t know where these thoughts were somone from; he’d just met the other boy. It made him feel nice, though, so he let them stay in his head.
He nodded at all of the talking and understood most of it. “1946 poplar road?” He said, a bit questioningly. It was pretty close to school.
He ducked his head when Jonas pulled out the notes. He’d nearly forgotten about that. He took them gratefully. “Aju chinjeolhashineyo,” He said quietly. He put them in his own bag before he realized what he’d said, and he blushed embarrassedly. “Um … good,” he replied to Jonas’s question. His day hadn’t been horrible, but it hadn’t been good either. Today was usually his bad day, with all of the harder classes, and adding the English sub just didn’t help.
Jonas smiled comfortably at Tae, not the least bit bothered by his nervous attitude in the beginning. Jonas was a celebrity, whether or not it was a good thing, he was used to people acting awkwardly flustered in his presence. It was his job to make them feel welcome, and as Taeyun relaxed a bit, Jonas felt as though he were doing an okay job at that. The car turned and rolled smoothly down a new road as Charlie changed routes to Tae's house. "So you're bilingual?" He asked eagerly when the other boy said something in a language he didn't understand. Jonas was amazed by people who spoke more than one language. He spoke a little bit of french but other than that he was totally an exclusive English speaker. He thought it was the coolest thing to be able to fluently speak another language. The car continued to move down the streets but the ride became less and less smooth as roads became more cracked and unkept. Jonas looked out the window to see the scenery. It was getting more and more rundown as they got closer to the house.
Taeyun only sunk back into the seat when Jonas smiled at him. This boy must be made of sunshine, he thought. Smiles came so easily for him. And he seemed to have an endless supply. Tae’s were numbered, and saved for certain people. Like Noona, or Bada. Ah, he missed Bada. She was probably dead by now; Tae’s father had taken custody of the dog after he’d been bailed out of prison.
Bilingual?Tae gazed blankly at the back of the seat in front of him, completely lost. He had no idea what bilingual meant. He was happy that he had somehow made Jonas excited though, so he smiled slightly.
Add Jonas to the smile list, then.
Taeyun turned to gaze out the window, and instinctively cringed at the appearance of his neighborhood. He almost wanted to cover Jonas’s eyes. Maybe this wasn’t such a great idea. He reached up and tugged on his left earlobe once again.
((HE'S SO CUTE!))Noticing the puzzled look on Taeyun's face Jonas quickly expanded on what the word meant, telling him it meant that you could speak two languages. So maybe Tae wasn't quite bilingual but he was pretty much fluent it seemed. Before he could ask anything else though they pulled up to a house. Charlie turned back to look at the two boys, giving Jonas a doubtful look. In all honesty Charlie was more of a parent than his mother or father was and he was always worried for his young charge's safety. The neighborhood was obviously making him nervous. Jonas couldn't help but glance around with a bit of concern as he stepped out of the car as well. But when he turned back to Taeyun he was careful to school his features into another smile. He was a happy person in general, but he also smiled to hide things.
"So, here we are!" He said in a glowing voice before gesturing for Taeyun to take the lead. He noticed the way the other boy tugged nervously on his earring and smiled softly to himself.
"I like your earrings by the way." He said gently.
{but jonas is literal sunshine}
Taeyun nodded along, finally understanding. “Yes,” He said. “Bilingual.” He narrowed his eyes at the word; it was a bit strange-sounding. He glanced over at Jonas. “Annyeonghaseyo,” He said (hello in korean). He was obviously pleased with himself. He took out the head-nodding part, though, because that would be considered too formal in America.
Taeyun tried not to take offense from Charlie’s worried gaze, but he couldn’t help but feel his cheeks burn. It might look bad, but his neighbors were really quite nice. Miss Ryan especially. He noticed a small fakeness in Jonas’s smile, and his own face dropped into a worried expression. He followed Jonas out of the car, nearly knocking his head on the door because of the strange way he got out of cars. He started walking up the weed-littered path to the front door. His carefully sculpted neutral expression turned into a real-live smile when Jonas mentioned his earrings. “Thank you,” He said, and dropped his hand to push open the front door.
((I mean, true. But he's probably gonna have some serious breakdowns eventually))"An-ye-onga-ha-se-yo" Jonas murmured softly, almost more to himself to remember. He pronounced it completely wrong and he didn't even know what it meant but he tried it out anyways. Maybe he could get Taeyun to teach him some korean. Following him down that path he carefully picked his way around the weeds and up to the door with Tae. One glance back showed him that Charlie was still looking nervously out the window as he watched them get into the house, but eventually he had to move as another car came down the narrow street. He would probably find a parking spot near by and wait for them there so he could come at short notice, but also keep an eye on the car. Taking a deep breath as Taeyun opened the door, Jonas let his eyes flutter closed for just half a second, preparing himself for this new experience. Sure he had been in some less than wealthy places before and this was hardly that bad, but he wanted to impress Tae so he had to be as kind and just normal as possible.
He turned the key and pushed on the door, having to slightly force it open. He stepped inside and spared a glance back at Jonas. “Noona, jeo wass-eoyo na jib-e iss-eoyo,” he said loudly once he was inside. He dropped the keys on the shelf next to the door and tried not to look at a single thing for too long. Everything was dirty, it seemed. Especially after being in a famous person’s car. Off of the entry way was the kitchen, with ancient appliances and yellowed countertops. He winced at the dirty dishes stacked in the sink. After he walked through the kitchen, he looked around for Noona and found her sleeping on the supposed-to-be-outdoor living room furniture. He rolled his eyes and jumped the step down into the living room. He knelt by her head and shook her shoulder gently. “Noona,” He said. He’d almost completely forgotten Jonas’s presence. It was a relief to see his grandmother again.
Jonas paused once they were inside the house, unable to stop himself from taking a long look around. Not that there was very much to look at. The house was small and everything seemed to be packed tightly together. Jonas was pretty sure that they could have fit the entire house into his guest dining room had they wanted to. When his mom talked to him about poverty it had always been in a sort of cute way. Like "sure they live in small houses but they're cozy." This didn't seem cozy to him though, it just seemed cramped and dirty. Eventually he followed Tae into the living room, spotting an old lady in a wicker chair. Even he knew that Noona was close enough to grandmother in other languages so he figured that's what she was to Taeyun. Feeling beyond awkward for the first time he hung back, staying up on the step that led to the living room. Shoving his hands into his pockets he vaguely wondered where Tae's parents were.
Noona finally woke up, and Tae was relieved. He’d thought … she might’ve been dead, maybe. He hated himself for thinking that though. She wouldn’t die without him. He hugged her tightly and then stood up embarrassedly, remembering Jonas’s presence. She was still half asleep. “Noona, il-eona la,” He said softly, and she stood up quickly. She narrowed her eyes at Jonas, but didn’t say anything.
Tae gave Jonas an apologetic look for Noona’s meanness.
“Ulin eodinga-e galgeoya,” He said to her, and she nodded cautiously, and then burst out laughing. “I can speak English just fine,” she said. Tae’s eyes widened. He’d never known that. “Noona!” He said. He’d always needed help with his English, and she’d known it all along? Ugh.
“Where are we going, now?” She asked him, and he looked to Jonas for help.
{sorry this is bad}
Jonas smiled shyly at Taeyun's grandmother, staying in his safe spot a few feet away from them. He was okay with meeting new people most of the time but for some reason he felt shy around Taeyun's grandmother. Meeting older people made him always feel like he had to impress them. He always felt as though he was being judged. That feeling was even more enforced by the suspicious look he was given by her. Even worse he hated that he couldn't understand what they were saying at first which further alienated him from the little scene. All of this was new to him, the neighborhood, the state of the house. At his home plates never piled up and dust wouldn't dare even settle for a moment on anything. "Oh. Uh, the doctor. Charlie will drive us." He answered before realizing that she didn't know who Charlie was.
"Uh, my driver." He explained before blushing brightly. He used to say his driver as though it were a normal thing, but seeing how Taeyun lived made him realize how strange and snobby he must seem.
((it looks fine to me!))
Noona shot him another glare as she shuffled through the kitchen and out the door. Tae walked after her, lingering for a moment in front of Jonas and then brushing his hand slightly against the other boy’s reassuringly. Noona might be a tough nut to crack, but inside, she really cared about people. Stereotypical, he knew. But still understandable.
He headed out the door, holding it open for Jonas to come through and locking the rust-covered door jamb behind him.
{awe, thanks. I’m losing my brain cells though as a result of school so this one was short, sorry.}
Jonas felt Taeyun's hand brush his and smiled slightly, ducking his head to look at their hands. Usually so sure of himself, Jonas was totally unsure how to act around Taeyun's grandmother. He wanted to impress her despite only knowing her for a few minutes. It wasn't even because he wanted Tae to see that he was a good person (although that was part of it too), he wanted to impress her because she seemed to hard to impress. It was a challenge, and he loved challenges. Following Taeyun out he pulled out his phone (an iphone X shall we notice) and texted Charlie. A moment later the car pulled up in front of them and Charlie got out to help Tae's grandmother into the car. Despite the fact that she was probably totally capable of doing it herself, Charle was a professional driver and it was his job to be polite like that. Figuring that Taeyun probably wanted to sit with his Noona, Jonas took the front seat next to Charlie and glanced back at them with a smile. A moment later they were off and on their way to the fanciest (most expensive) and best doctor's office in the city.((Ha, funny how school does that!))
Taeyun was again uncomfortable in the car. Especially with Jonas so far away, in the front seat. He’d only know the boy for two days, but somehow he’d come to expect his presence.
He looked over at Noona and was surprised to see her looking impressed. He’d thought she would refuse, turn down Jonas’s offer. But, maybe her sense of self-preservation was higher than her sense of pride. Smart woman.
Tae looked anxiously in the rear view mirror for Jonas’s eyes, waiting for this drive to be over already. It was making him uncomfortable. For no reason at all.
{haha yea}
Letting his dark eyes drift to the mirror, he met Taeyun's gaze in the reflection with a small smile. The other boy looked beyond uncomfortable but Jonas wasn't sure what he could do to make him feel more relaxed. Before he knew it though, Charlie had pulled up in the parking lot of the doctor's office. Jumping out of the car, Jonas gave Taeyun a wide grin when he opened the door for him as Charlie helped his grandmother out. Once they were in the doctor's office, Jonas separated a bit from the group to talk to the man at the front desk who gestured towards one of the rooms. One of the perks of going to an expensive doctor is there was no waiting involved. "Uh, we can go in." Jonas mumbled and led them down the hall to the office.
"Jonas! Nice to see you again. How's school?" Ever since he had come here Jonas had had the same doctor, Jessica who was supposedly one of the best in the country. He often had to deal with visits to the doctor to deal with all of his food allergies so he and Jessica were quite friendly.
"Good, everything is really good! Actually i'm not here for me though, I booked an appointment for my friend." He gestured to Taeyun an Noona to come in.
Taeyun had expected to relax once they got there, but their arrival was just met with more tension. He had to physically control himself, stop himself from tugging his earring right out of his ear. It was some na’au he had; some gut feeling. It was about this place. He didn’t like it.
He still followed Jonas inside, though. It was so clean … he felt like a dirt stain in the middle of it. If he touched anything, he’d probably leave a mark.
Taeyun was a bit taken aback by the familiarity of the doctor and Jonas. He guessed he had thought that Jonas was, like, ever well or something. He supposed not, though.
Tae walked in the room cautiously when Jonas said and sat down in one of the chairs, feeling beyond awkward. Noona sat beside him and crossed her legs at the ankles, already half asleep. She could sleep anywhere.
The doctor hardly blinked an eye and turned the full force of her bright smile to Taeyun and his grandmother. "I didn't get any medical files about your guest." She said to Jonas with a questioning look on her face. Most of the medical clinics kept files about their patients that could be sent to new doctors or hospitals if need be. It didn't cross her mind that maybe they didn't go to any of those clinics, or maybe even go to the doctor's at all. But she was one of the best doctors for a reason and didn't let that stop her.
"Well that shouldn't be too much of a problem." She smiled down at Taeyun before turning to look at his grandmother, who after a glance at Jonas was most certainly the patient.
"What seems to be the problem today? Or is this just a normal checkup?" She asked, putting her hand on Noona's arm gently to make sure she was awake. Jonas gave the floor an uncomfortable look and tilted his head slightly towards the door.
"Uh, i'm gonna go wait outside" He murmured softly before disappearing into the waiting room.
Taeyun was blanking again on medical files. Medical … that was doctors, and file … was paper? So doctor’s paper. He didn’t remember anything like that. What if he was doing this all wrong?
“Checkup,” He said a bit shyly when the smiley lady asked. He could tell that 70% of her smiles were saved for patients, and the other 30% were for reality.
When Jonas left the room, Tae stood up and followed him out. He wasn’t intent on being left alone in a room with only two older women. Awkward. He sat down in a chair and propped his chin on his hand and tried to divert his attention from the possible doom that was impending on him and Noona.
{time-skIp}
When Noona and the doctor finally came out, Noona was grumbling something awful under her breath. “Taehyungie, geudeul-eun naleul jikilyeogo nolyeoghagoiss-eo,” She said accusingly. Tae frowned and stood up.
Noona explained that they wanted to keep her for a few nights to ‘observe’, but the way she said it, they were practically kidnapping her. “Noona,” Tae said. “Stay. Neoneunhaeyahanda.” If they wanted to keep her, they should. After all, this was a life and death matter. And they were the professionals, not Tae, or Noona, or even Jonas.
Jonas didn't say much while he and Taeyun were sitting in the waiting room. Part of being an introvert meant that sometimes he felt like talking was useless. Instead he had just given Tae a small smile and then spent the rest of his time flipping through a magazine on the waiting room table. When Noona came back out he watched her and her grandson converse, once again slightly irked that he didn't understand what they were saying. Noticing his look Dr. Jacob quickly explained the situation. Jonas still didn't know what was wrong with Noona, but it must not be good if they were keeping her over for a little while. "Uh, alright. I guess just send the billing information to me." He murmured to her. He would figure out how to get his mom to pay for this later. She would probably just be happy that he was making friends.
"While i'm here. Can I get a refill on a few of my pills? It's been a while since I got some." He quickly told Taeyun that he would be back in a moment and followed the doctor into the office again. A moment later he came out laden with about every pill imaginable. He was lactose intolerant, couldn't eat gluten, allergic to soy as well as beans, had horrible reactions in the summer to certain flowers and worst of all, he couldn't eat chocolate. The pills didn't stop the allergic reactions but they kept them under control most of the time so that nothing totally fatal happened to him.
Tae hugged Noona and then the doctor took her back into wherever she was going. He waited for Jonas to come back. He was intending on thanking him immensely for the appointment, but then he saw the huge bag of bottles of pills and his eyes widened perceptibly. “You okay?” He asked, worried. What if Jonas was terminal or something?
He remembered himself and bowed as a sorry. “Mianhae.” He said without thinking, but didn’t correct himself. He didn’t really know how to correctly pronounce sorry and didn’t want to make a fool of himself.
“Thank you,” He said to Jonas once they were out of the building. He wanted to convey how actually much it meant to him … but than you didn’t seem enough.
{tbh I hate old people (idek why) so this scene was like one big uGh}
A quizzical expression passed over Jonas's face at Taeyun's worried question until he realized that the boy was looking down at all the pills in his hands. The fact was, was that something was always going wrong with Jonas's health. Whether it be allergies or stomach problems or migraines he was constantly in and out of the doctor's office. But he was used to it and none of it was life threatening (besides his allergy to wasps, but he had an epipen for that.) so he often forgot that things like that worried other people."Oh yeah, i'm fine. It's just allergy medicine." He replied flippantly, shoving the bottles down into his bag. He didn't mind people asking about it, it wasn't exactly a touchy subject or anything.
"It's the least I can do." He replied honestly, shrugging slightly.
"Are we still on for dinner?" He added, glancing at his Rolex watch.
{idk! it’s just something about them … just … idk}
“Yeah,” Tae said, trying not to stare at the fancy watch. “Yes.”
To be honest, he knew something bad was going on with Noona — he wasn’t an imperceptive child or anything. He was trying to distract himself with all the small things. Like how rich Jonas was. How nice it was that he’d asked him out to dinner. Little stuff like that.
Jonas had allergies, though. That was new. He’d thought by Jonas’s sunshine nature that everything in his life was going right, but he guessed every silver lining had a cloud. It was depressing to think about.
((Interesting...))Jonas grinned brightly. He did have to watch what he ate most of the time but he knew loads of restaurants that tailored specifically to people with allergies. Places like Panda Express or the Italian place didn't do that but he had learned which dishes were okay for him and he always made sure to gulp down a few pills before eating anywhere that didn't guarantee safety.
"Awesome. Panda Express still sounds good?" He added. He hadn't made a reservation or anything but since it was still during the school year and it wasn't a crazy trendy place he wasn't worried about finding a seat. It was around 6:00 and might be a good time to start heading off to go get something to eat. He glanced back at the door that they had taken Taeyun's grandmother into and gave him a keen look. It must not be easy to have to leave her on her own here.
"Uh, we can drive you to here if you want... you know while she's staying here." He told Taeyun as they walked out onto the curb. Charlie was already back in the car and watched as Jonas slid into the back seat after Tae.
{and now I have to live with my grandparents and my grandpa doesn't even flush the toilet HeLp}
Tae nodded at Panda Express. Although this time would be different, it would still be nice to have his mind on matters other than the bill at the end of the meal.
He looked at Jonas surprisedly. It was like he expected this relationship to last more than a night, and that was incredibly, somehow reassuring. It was also unbearably kind. Tae got in the car after Jonas and looked down while he said, "That would be really nice. Thanks."
He couldn't help but notice the empty front seat, and blushed a little.
{oMg they have a thing}
((Its not just grandparents who do that... my siblings all do that))In the front seat, Charlie was silent but he smiled a little bit as the two boys conversed. Once again, Charlie had known Jonas for almost his whole life and was almost like a father or a big brother to Jonas.
"Anything to help." He replied, smiling to himself when Tae blushed. The other boy was beyond adorable when he blushed like that. The car rolled smoothly out of the parking lot and quickly arrived in front of Panda Express. Stepping out of the car, Jonas opened the door for Taeyun and thanked Charlie with a small wave. Now that he was outside he had a peculiar way of hunching down into his clothing as though he wanted to melt into his clothing. Which in fact he sort of did. He really didn't want anyone to see him, anyone who might recognize him. Worst of all if some fanatic teenager saw him, he just wanted to have a nice night with a cute guy.
Taeyun watched Charlie in the mirror while he drove, and couldn’t help but wonder if he had kids of his own. Did he have a wife? Did Jonas know if he did? Tae always thought little of officials, but now he was rethinking that with Charlie’s fatherly glances towards Jonas.
Tae frowned when he got out of the car, nearly bumping his head again, and saw Jonas trying to look invisible. That seemed a sure way to attract more attention.
“Hat?” Tae said, his eyebrows high up in a look of question. He took off his own and pulled it over Jonas’s head. He knew enough about famous people that most of them didn’t want to be noticed in public, so he was trying to help.
{hAha}
Jonas grinned when Taeyun pulled a hat over his head. It slid over his eyes and he had to push it back up so he could see. It was a kind gesture for the boy to even think of offering his hat to help a bit with a disguise. Most people wouldn't have been so considerate. "Thanks." He said cheerfully. No one seemed to notice him and Jonas took a moment to watch the people walk past them. A couple with a dog jogged past, wearing bright jogging clothing. Just behind them a group of girls laughed and tossed around a basketball as they walked. He liked watching people. Not in a creepy way, he just liked the feeling of knowing that somewhere everyone was just going on with their life. That he wasn't important in their lives. It was strange, but he liked feeling like he didn't matter. It was less stressful. Opening the door for Taeyun he pointed out a table at the that was in a corner. He liked corner tables.
"Does that one look okay to you?" He asked politely.
