Autumn walked into the Language Class. She was here to meet the Sign Language teacher to talk about her being a teacher assistant for her class.
Khaleesi was sitting at a desk towards the front of the room. She had her Latin book out and was trying to translate a Latin poem.
Autumn looked at the clock and realized that she was early. She noticed a girl sitting at a desk. Otherwise the classroom was pretty much empty.
Khaleesi chewed on her lip, this one word and she would be done, giving up she shoved the book into her backpack and stood up.
Autumn continued to wait for the sign language teacher.
Khaleesi picked up her stuff and walked quickly to the door not even looking up and she bumped into something solid. "Sorry!"
Autumn lost her balance but thankfully she didn't fall onto the ground.
"It's alright."
"It's alright."
Khaleesi looked up, "I'm so sorry I didn't see you at all, I'm Khaleesi by the way, Khaleesi Westerling."
"Nice to meet you. I'm Autumn Williams."
"You name is nice to. It is very unique and I don't think I've ever heard of it before."
"Why thank you, it means Queen in a language no one has ever heard of." Khaleesi sighed, "I named after someone from Game Of Thrones."
"Cool," Autumn replied, "How long have you been at BLA?"
"I've been going here since I was fourteen," Autumn replied.
"So you know your way around pretty well, I've been here for a week and I've managed to walk into about 15 different classes so far." Khaleesi said with a laugh.
Autumn laughed a little bit too, "I did that when I was new here. Honestly no one was good with giving me directions when I first came here."
" I thought it was weird that they didn't welcoming students like they do in London. " Khaleesi said, "America is quite different."
"Do you need help finding anything," Autumn asked just in case Khalessi hadn't quite found everything yet.
"I've been trying to find new places to study," Khaleesi said, " I haven't met my roommate yet either."
"I typically either study in my dorm or in the library," Autumn replied.
"I did hear that there is a nice coffee shop to study in but I haven't found it yet." Khaleesi said.
"Are you talking about Cat's Coffee?"
"I've been there a couple of times. It's nice there."
"It typically is," Autumn answered.
Autumn smiled, "Yes. Most of the time it's a great place to study."
"Geometry, Sign Language, American Literature, US History, Earth Science, Education and P.E.," Autumn answered, "you?"
First week of classes as a Senior... Sienna couldn’t believe it! She was as nervous as she was excited, and even feeling a little bit nostalgic already. She didn’t wanted high school to end... she would feel so old. She strolled through the hallways, pushing a cart that the teacher had instructed her to deliver to the storage room located on the basement of the building. She really wanted to score some points with this teacher, so she had volunteered to take this task off their hands. That cart was heavy and full off incredibly thick (and expensive) books, however it was not trouble for Sienna to move it from one side of the building to another. She needed this small exercise, her last basketball season was just around the corner, and the training was just about to start! She was heading for the service elevator, students were not normally allowed to use them but she was the exception today. After some lengthy minutes of pushing the cart around, she finally reached it. She pushed the button and waited, not paying attention when the lights coming from the elevator flickered for a split of a second. Seconds later, the elevator arrived and she pushed the cart inside. There was a lot of room inside the elevator.
............. ............. ............. ............. ............. .............
Most people were excited by the new year and all the possibilities it held. Tevi was too, except for one small detail that was making him miserable. He had broken his leg after an unfortunate incident involving a baseball bat. He couldn't partake in any physical activities that involved running (which was pretty much all of them) so he hadn't played any basketball or soccer in what felt like forever. There was one perk, which was he got to use the elevator. Blue Lake Academy wasn't a huge school and he could have managed the stairs a little clumsily but just fine, but he liked to use the elevator for the simple reason that he could. Checking his watch, Tevi walked as quickly as possible down the hallway. He was on his way to a doctors appointment were he would hopefully be getting the cast off. Luckily for him the elevator was already there and open since someone was obviously inside and he slipped in after them. The first thing he saw was a huge cart of books, and the next thing he saw was... Sienna.
"He....y" The first part of the word had been said with the joy of someone seeing a friend for the first time in a long time, but the last part trailed off as he realized he was supposed to be angry at her.
Sienna pushed the cart inside and hoped inside the elevator, as another student quickly slipped inside after her. She thought that maybe a lazy student just wanted a ride downstairs, but when she turned around she found herself face to face with... Tevi. Her respiration stiffened a little, and an indescribable feeling crawled up her stomach to sit on her chest. It wasn’t butterflies, that’s for sure, it was something more like fear. She heard that he greeted her first, yet he spoke awkwardly.
“H-heeey...” she answered equally awkwardly.
She would’ve really wanted to appear tough or hide all her real feelings behind a neutral expression, but she couldn’t... he took her by surprise. Instead, her eyes expressed fear, like a deer cornered by a wolf.
Inevitably, bad memories flooded her mind... Yeah, they had, supposedly, talked, they had solved their differences... but that seemed to have solved nothing. After that day it was just... weird. They could barely talk to each other. Sienna understood that words hadn’t been enough, that there had to be some time, but frankly she had given up by now. Even though, she did missed him so dearly...
The elevator’s doors closed, and it started to slowly move downwards.
.......... .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... ..........
Well, this was not good. Of course the girl in the elevator had to be Sienna. Out of the hundreds of students here, of course it had to be her. He knew that officially they had cleared the air but still he didn't know how to talk to her or even how to feel around her. She had done something horrible to him and to Arthur and he wasn't sure if he could ever forgive her fully for that. But he also knew that he missed Sienna, his basketball buddy and he was going to have a horrible senior year if he didn't start talking to her again. "So... we haven't talked in a while. How-how are you?" He asked, eyes flitting up to hers before quickly shifting away. He just felt so awkward, like she was a whole other species.
What scared him a little bit was the look in her eyes. She looked terrified. The last thing Tevi wanted was for her to be afraid of him. He knew that his temper had flared up a bit but he didn't want her to fear him. Tevi was a friendly person in general and especially with friends he wanted to be seen as approachable and kind.
Suddenly the lights flickered out for a moment and a dull squeal filled the elevator. Tevi looked up in surprise before looking at Sienna with a wide eyed look. He was about to say something when suddenly the dull squeal stopped, along with the elevator itself. There was a silence and the light flickered out again.
Of all the things that could happen, Tevi trying to awkwardly make conversation was not one she would’ve predicted, she thought he was still mad at her. She felt kinda relieved that he was seeking to start a conversation, but at the same time also awkward because he was being so awkward... Sienna was really confused. Not really knowing what was she supposed to answer, she was about to open her mouth when the elevator malfunctioned.
Sienna screamed sharply as an instinct when the lights flickered and the elevator squealed. Maybe it had been an exaggerate reaction considering how Tevi handled it, but all those mixed feelings could barely be contained.
The elevator had stopped, and Sienna knew it had stuck between two floors. She made some quick respiration’s to calm herself, and then hit the alarm button on the panel.
Her mind was now divided, focused on two things: First, the elevator. They were probably stuck between floors 2 and 3, and she had already sent the alarm, so somebody had to be sent on their aid soon. Good. This school was very professional so they shouldn’t need to worry about that. Alright, now, second... Tevi. From all the people to be stuck on an elevator with... it had to be Tevi. Deep down she asked God why was this happening to her, why with Tevi?
She glanced at him, avoiding to make eye contact. She didn’t knew what to do next. She leaned on the cart, breathing heavily.
........... ........... ........... ........... ........... ...........
If Sienna thought that Tevi wasn't freaking out, she was very very wrong. He just wasn't as loud about as she was. His breathing started to come faster but the rest of his body sort of just froze up, like he was afraid to move. The dim emergency light flickered ominously and Tevi clutched the bar at the back of the elevator with white knuckles. He watched with wide eyes as Sienna immediately went for the emergency button. Of course she was smart enough to get to that right away, he would have spent much more time freaking out. Another thing he liked about Sienna, she was tough. Even though she had screamed she could still seem to keep a clear mind.He could her hear breath in the total silence, heavy and scared. Taking a big breath of his own he forced himself to stop panicking just for a few seconds.
"Well, isn't this an adventure." He joked feebly. He flashed a smile Sienna's way but he wasn't sure if she saw it or not. His smile was still a bit frozen, half from fear and half because he still wasn't sure he even wanted to talk to Sienna.
Sienna had to make some deep respirations again to calm herself. ‘Everything’s fine’ she repeated to herself mentally. It had been a pretty big scare, but she was fine, Tevi was fine, everything was fine. She glanced at him, catching a glimpse of his smile. He almost seemed in control, but what was he doing? He kept trying to talk to her? He was hard to read. She made eye contact with him, and she saw that he was scared too.
She gulped silently, and nodded slowly. “Yeah,” she said sighing, forming a half smile on her face. “It was horrible,” she added cautiously.
She... she did knew something, she wanted to talk to him. She hoped... he wanted too.
..................... ..................... ..................... ..................... ..................... .....................
Tevi sighed and looked over at her before sliding down the metal side of the elevator. Resting his chin on his hands he stretched his broken leg out in front of him. His leg had been itchy all day and even now, when stuck in a broken elevator with the worst person possible, it couldn't distract him from the horrible itch that remained unreachable under the plaster of the cast. He found it sort of hilarious that despite the situation, he was still thinking about that. "Um Sienna..." He let out a big breath before looking at her again. Not just seeing her, really looking at her. He knew that he needed to forgive her, it would make both of them much happier.
"Look, about what happened. I don't hate you, and I really want to be friends. I mean, this is senior year. I want to spend it with the people I like." He smiled carefully at her before revising his last statement.
"I mean, not like like. Just like, friends like." He added in a painfully awkward tone.
He knew that somewhere he might always like Sienna, it was hard not to. But Tobio was his boyfriend and he really liked him more than anyone else in the world. Sienna couldn't change that. Plus, he had heard from a few students that she had been seen a lot with some guy who worked at the movie theater. Of course that didn't mean they were dating, but still.
Sienna was stiff as she listened carefully to what Tevi was saying. A genuine smile appeared crossing her worried face. She was very happy that he said that. Another unexplained feeling brewed on her stomach and flew up towards her chest. This one was positive.“Yes,” She said simply. “Yes, I- I want that too,” she added. There was emotion on her voice. She didn’t payed attention to the correction he made, it didn’t mattered to her, she understood alright. She had to resist the urge to hug him. That wouldn’t be alright, not right now.
She too stared at Tevi, really looking at him. Sienna had not processed until now that he had a cast on his leg. She made a sympathetic smirk as she sat on the floor next to him.
“Thank you,” she muttered. “What happened?” She asked. She thought it could be a good start. They could be stuck there for a while...
................ ................ ................ ................ ................ ................
"Good." Tevi replied with a bright smile. Sienna still seemed a little bit cautious around him, but he figured only time together could change that. This was the first time he had seen her smile at him in a long time and for a brief moment he was reminded about why he used to have a crush on her. She was very beautiful, but now he had eyes only for Tobio. The light was dim enough that Tevi had to squint to look at his watch. He was going to be late for his appointment, not a good thing. He had already been late for two other appointments and he had the feeling his doctor sort of hated him. Something seemed to go wrong every time he needed to get to the doctors and he could just add getting stuck in an elevator to the list. Honestly, he was surprised at how calm he was being about this. Of course it was probably only because he wanted to stay calm and not embarrass himself in front of Sienna. Had he been alone he probably would have been totally panicking.
"Oh, it's really stupid." Tevi flushed slightly and rolled his eyes.
"Uh, I was playing baseball and was running past by friend when he swung the bat. Long story short, metal is stronger than bone." He winced playfully before giving her another pained grin.
"How was your summer?" He asked in return.
Sienna flinched expressively as she pictured the scene. She shook those thoughts away because it was really ugly to imagine that. “Ouch...” she said sympathetically.
“It was nice,” she answered, but she knew that ‘nice’ was really ambiguous and couldn’t really cover up that much time.
“I went home for some weeks, and then returned early to take some interest classes,” she added. She pursed her lips for a moment, trying to think about what else was worth mentioning. She thought that maybe telling him something like ‘I made new friends, and met this interesting guy’ wasn’t a good idea, not now at least. She nodded slowly to affirm that it had been all.
“How about you? Did you went back to Canada as well?” She asked.
For a moment she remembered that he told her once that whenever they went back home, he would introduce her to some friends. She had treasured the idea of hanging out with him on summer, but well... that never came to happen. She totally ruined that. Even though she was happy that they were talking, she still felt guilt. It wasn’t as crippling as before, but it was still there. She laid her head on the wall of the elevator.
........................... ........................... ........................... ........................... ........................... ...........................
Tevi, while annoyed at his injury had found it rather hilarious. Being hit by a baseball bat was not how he had ever imagined hurting himself. Being interested in sport, he wasn't a stranger to sports related injuries, but this was still sort of funny to him. Shrugging slightly at her sympathetic frown he turned to look back at the emergency button Sienna had pressed. It blinked red to show that it had been used, but Tevi already felt like he had been stuck in the elevator for a long time now. Tevi was the type of person who was constantly on the move, that was partly why he loved sports so much. So, being trapped in an enclosed space wasn't exactly his cup of tea. "You are such a goody-two shoes." He commented with a grin. Of course Sienna had come back early to take some courses she liked. He would never do that, he loved his summer too much.
"Yeah, I went back for a bit to hang out with my sister. I miss her a lot during the year... and I spent a lot of time with Tobio." He added warily. It seemed that relationships were going to be a bit of a strange subject for both of them, for now at least. Glancing over at her, he sighed inwardly. He wanted everything to go back to normal with them, he missed her.
“That’s good,” she said with a comprehensive expression, however, turning more serious she added, “I heard that you went back to Canada with him out of a sudden, something about... looking for someone?” She asked carefully. She didn’t knew details, but at the time everyone was talking about it. She had avoided hearing the rumors as much as she could... it was a bit hard for her to hear about Tevi. She was also unsure of who Tobio was. She had heard about him and Tevi, but it wasn’t really clear for her if they were friends or something else. The way Tevi had referred at him, however, made her think that they were close. The idea that Tevi was dating someone made her feel slightly uneasy, but it couldn’t be jealousy, she thought. Suddenly, there was a loud and persistent knocking on the door of the elevator, but it sounded like it was coming almost at the level of the floor.
“Hello?” a male voice asked. “Hello!? Is someone there?” he asked. It sounded very muffled behind the two steel doors, but it was still audible.
“Hello? Yes! We are here! Two students!” Sienna answered immediately. She stood up and got closer to the elevators, kneeling on the ground. “Two students here!” She repeated loudly.
Tevi looked away suddenly and the little twinkle of amusement that always sparked in his eyes died for a moment. He didn't like thinking about when his sister had disappeared. It scared him to think about it. More than anything he hated that he was here, miles and miles away from her even after everything that had happened. He had half wanted to move back to Toronto so he could live in the same house as his little sister, so he could be the first to know if something went wrong. Of course, he had known his father would never let him do that. They had both worked too hard to get Tevi into BLA for him to leave graduating year. Plus he had a life here now, friends, a boyfriend. "My sister went missing. She's alright though, it was only for a few days." He let out a shaky breath before suddenly looking up when he heard the sound of a voice. Immediately he smiled and moved so he was next to Sienna so he could hear what the guy was saying.
"Alright. We're gonna get you out." There was was a clatter on the other side of the door and the door was pried open slightly. The elevator had stopped so that only the bottom part of the elevator reached the opening, they would have to slither out on their stomach to get out and they were still a meter or two off the floor.
"You can jump right? it's only a meter or a bit more, we'll be right there to get you if you fall." The man said with a grunt as he pulled the doors fully open.
“He is injured!” Sienna said to the man who was helping them. “He had previously broken his leg,” she informed.“I’ll help getting you out first,” she said decidedly, turning at Tevi.
She had heard what Tevi had said about his sister, but didn’t had the time to answer just then. Even though, he did seemed like he didn’t wanted to talk about it.
Tevi had grown up in a household where strength was important. Being a man meant that you had to be strong and you helped other people first. The fact that Sienna was offering to help him rather than him helping her sort of went against basically everything he had learned at home. But he knew that Sienna was strong (anyone who could beat him in basketball immediately had his vote of confidence) and he knew that he wasn't going to be able to get down without someone's help. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt himself even more. He was supposed to get the cast off today and if he didn't he was sure he was going to go crazy. "Alright. But make sure you can get down too. Safely." He said in a surrendering tone. He didn't like it and he knew that had his father been here he would have told Tevi how weak he was being, but Tevi needed help getting down.
"Broken leg? We can probably get a ladder or something up there." There was a clank of metal beneath them and a ladder was soon leaning against the bottom of the elevator. It was a bit awkward for Tevi since one leg was wrapped in plaster and he couldn't bend it, but eventually he managed to get a foot down on the first rung of the ladder.
"Sienna, you sure you're going to be able to get down after?" He asked although he knew that she was going to be able to. He just felt like it was right for a friend to worry about another friend.
