What is unique about the setting of the book and how does it enhance or take away from the story?

The setting of the book is unique because they live in an abstract world where there are strict rules and regulations. It enhances the story because it creates a mood of discomfort and wonder. If the citizens in the community break a rule more than two times they are "released" into the outside world and nobody ever hears or sees them again. A pilot accidentally got of course and flew over the community and because of the strict rules he was released or let go. When something happens they have a speaker who talks and is heard by the whole civilization through loudspeakers. "Needless to say, he will be released" ( Lowry, 2). The book is really good so far and I want to read more.
