I loved the concept of the book, a woman who is a reaper, one who helps people pass to the light. I loved that she is a private investigator and helps her relatives, who are cops, to solve murders. She always tried to do the right thing, even at a young age.
While I did like the book, I felt like the author was trying too much with the dialogue. Every time that Charley spoke she always had a snarky, sarcastic, or flip comment and she always has to have the last comment with everyone she talked to.
Even with all my issues, I'm still reading the series. I did think #6 was a bit better with the author not trying so hard, everything didn't have to be funny or named.

I really really enjoyed this book. Some Stephanie plum echoes, which is good. I like those books.
Then I got to the part where Reyes's identity is revealed and I felt sort of... I don't know.... I prefer my urban fantasy not to be overtly religious. Plus there's another grim reaper series where she's the daughter of Lucifer (which doesn't bother me because it's not the same thing though many would think it is, but it's similar enough.) I don't know, I just feel let down, betrayed? Probably I'm overreacting, but if those overtones had been there since the beginning I don't think it would have bothered me but up until that point it was religion neutral.
Ok so I totally ripped off the picture from pinintrest it is a poster thing you can vote on http://www.keepcalm-o-matic.co.uk/p/k...
About the book
This whole grim reaper thing should have come with a manual.
Or a diagram of some kind.
A flow chart would have been nice.
Charley Davidson is a part-time private investigator and full-time grim reaper. Meaning, she sees dead people. Really. And it's her job to convince them to "go into the light." But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (like murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she's been having about an entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely. But what does he want with Charley? And why can't she seem to resist him? And what does she have to lose by giving in?
Great series lets us know if you read it or if you plan to!
