Spoilers for Goldenhand

(view spoiler)[I loved the first third of Goldenhand. I think if that story had continued, it would have been even better than Sabriel. Meticulous, always building towards something but not in a rush. There were plans and emotional depth and character moments in an increasingly pretty world.

BUT THEN THE KISSING STARTED HAPPENING and Lirael fell apart! WTAF. I fell in love way younger than she is in this story with the guy I married. You know what I was able to do that entire time? Everything else I needed to do.

It was so fast and abrupt! I was expecting more like the growth between Sabriel and Touchstone or Lirael and Sam (though obviously in a different way). NOPE. Reserved librarian warrior to full on idiot-in-love in a cold ten seconds.

Also, did it really end with Sabriel and Touchstone standing together on the battlefield they were sure would be their last, surrounded by a river of the dead and dying, chuckling about how their family members may be falling in love? (hide spoiler)]

I realise this is a super-old thread, but I just had to chirp up to say I totally agree with you, and I was kind of disappointed that he wrapped it all up so quickly in one novel. I was thinking it could have stretched out into another book, at least!

Also, in reading your reply regarding romance, I would say that none of the romances do all that well in the Abhorsen series so far. Still need to read Goldenhand though and others. I was kind of hoping that Nick and Lirael would end up together eventually though. But I'll post once I've read GH. :D

This is why The Coldfire Trilogy: Black Sun Rising/ When True Night Falls/ Crown of Shadows is one of my favorites. Who exactly is the villain in the story isn't always clear. (view spoiler)[With Clariel, you just keep hoping that the people in her life will just listen to her. If any adult had listened to her, it would have been so much different. That being said, we wouldn't have our Chlorr then. :D (hide spoiler)]

Okay....finally finished up Goldenhand. Stupid school has been getting into the way of my reading. Lol.

(view spoiler)[ My take is that Garth Nix likes to tie up loose ends which is why all the main characters ended up paired off. I think he had kind of put in that bit about Nick and Lireal into the other books slightly. I would have preferred a short story about Ferin and Sam growing in love over her leg than the bit there was at the end of Goldenhand.

I think that the whole Sabriel being pouty about not being able to go off into the Rift was annoying. It was great to see her and Touchstone seem more mature and then there was that whole "why can't I go to the Rift instead of Lireal?" thing. I think of all of the books in the series, Clariel is probably the strongest? (hide spoiler)]

All in all, I like the series and would like to see more. :)
