When did you read this series? Paper book, ebook, other format? Remember the covers? Author female or male?

The aliens saying they were models from Europe sounded familiar, so I had a feeling I might have read this and skimmed through my shelves for something that might fit your series description.
It could be the Bondmates series by Ann Mayburn. Not sure about saving a ranch in the second book, but the third book description mentions a scarred commander.
