TASK 38 COMPLETE June 2017
27/50 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

38. Do you prefer tea, coffee, or water? Coffee

I have been a confirmed caffeine addict since about 18. Is it any wonder that I chose to read Black Coffee? I used to drink it black but these days it gives me heartburn *sigh* so I add a little milk :(

Margo | 11662 comments Janice, I've just read Sleeping Giants. Do you think it will fulfil the requirements of task 34. What is your favourite animal (other than domestic pets)? My answer was Slothes (weird I know but I'd just watched a documentary!). I don't mind reading another book but the word "sleeping" in the title reminded me of this animal ;-)

message 103: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59997 comments I'm feeling quite "slothful" this afternoon, so I think it's an appropriate connection.

message 104: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Margo - The Hercule Poirot book was the one I originally chose to read for coffee, but I was suckered into reading something else by a title.

I'm sure I would have enjoyed HP better and it would have eliminated one more book from my series list.

message 105: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11662 comments Thanks Janice, go back to sleep now lol

Cherie I'm glad I read it because it would kill me to think that there was a Christie out there that I had missed, but honestly it was dull. Even the little grey cells couldn't save it ;-p

message 106: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, too bad. I have lots of Christie's books at home, yet to read. I bought quite a few HP and Miss Marple series books at a library sale. I need to get my book list updated and start knocking some of them off. Other books keep jumping in the way. :0)

How did the book relate to a sloth? Just curious...

ETA: Just looked further up the thread and found the answer. lol

Margo | 11662 comments LOL it was tenuous but I caught Janice on a good day! What was I thinking? Who'd answer "slothe" to that question??

message 114: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments There are a few answers I gave which I wish I hadn't. But we weren't to know what the tasks would require of us at that point.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Well, they are really cool and cute animals! I have a sloth I crocheted at home. He used to be on the back seat of my partner's car, but currently he's just hanging from the ceiling in our garage.

I read A Dying Fall, a Ruth Galloway mystery. Ruth lectures in forensic archaeology and in her spare time assists the police in their investigations. I enjoyed the early part of the series but I think this may been one henge too far!

Or, read a book that has the same title. If the movie is not an adaptation, read a book with a similar theme or has the same title.

I read The Buried Giant for this challenge. One of the characters in this book is Sir Gawain of King Authors round table. In the story he is brave and chivalrous and full of knightly.

Knight's Tale only has 98 pages so I don't think it qualities for this challenge. Also, the copy I bought from audible turned out to read in middle english lol That was a bit of fun!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Hi Margo - I wasn't sure where to post this but I guess it is ok here. We talked about the Bobiverse books somewhere else, I know. I just wanted to let you know that I am listening to the 3rd book ( I waited until I finished The Painted Man). I just wanted to let you know not to wait too long between books if you are planning on finishing the other two. The new Bob AI names and the solar system names get crazy to keep up with but I am still enjoying it. The 3rd audiobook is only a little over 8 hrs long. I have listened to 3hrs today.

message 140: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11662 comments Oh Cherie you are tempting me!

I am under a self imposed book- buying-ban at the moment. I am finding that I buy the 1st book of so many series when they're on special offer and I fail to follow up on the rest of the series.

I'm wishing now that I'd bought book 2 in the recent audible sale. I have it in my basket along with Executed 2 for my hubbie, but I couldn't find a third. If it works like the UK site they should be in my basket for the next sale - question is, can I wait that long??!!

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Margo, I loved The Painted Veil!

You're doing good ;-)

I'm holding at #42, because I am bound and determined to finally finish a Season in the big Seasonal Reading Challenge after 5 years trying. I have done 25 of 56 tasks and have read 45 books so far for the Fall SRC and have about 30-32 books to go before 11/30 ; / Eek!

I better go and read The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy rather than read threads {giggling}

message 142: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11662 comments Anne, it sounds like your hands are full to overflowing! You've done brilliantly to 42 books read in such a short time :-)

The Painted Veil was wonderful and I'd love to read some more from W. Somerset Maugham. I own both The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy on audio but I just can't get to then - I blame all these challenges!!

Don't kill yourself, Margo. I understand about buying 1st series books. I do the same. I only happened to come across these because my daughter had purchased the ebooks on her Kindle account and they came with whisper sink audio. The Kindle app on my Nook is linked to my daughter's Kindle Unlimited account and we share an Audible account. By shareing, I mean - I pay for the books, but it is her account. She bought the first two for her and her boys to listen to on car trips. I had to beg her to please load the 3rd book so that I could get the audio. They have not listened to the 2nd book yet.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Margo wrote: "I really want to read them but I find it so hard to resist challenges!!"

I have the same compulsion, Margo. Challenge books mostly always come first. I have made more of an effort to read "just because" books this year though too. I am still working on two other past yearly challenge lists, so there never seems a lack of "challenge" books for me. A lot of my audio books fall into the "just because" category because I feel like something is missing if I don't always have an audio book to listen to.

With me it's challenge books, then library books and lastly tbr (what I own). It sounds crazy even to me that I prioritize books that catch my eye in the library above books I like well enough to buy!
