Glad you enjoyed it. I would too. In fact, McMini has been studying the Incas, so now he keeps sacrificing villagers to the sun god every evening in Minecraft! I should think he would have been sent to an exorcist for that kind of behaviour, back in the day.

Only just read last weeks, found it hilarious - only little children could think something like that, and made worse by the grownups steadfastly ignoring them! I also like to read the comments, and chuckled at your comment about the TV advert!
There’ll be another one next week that’ll be more interesting than this weeks so if the cats get bored when you start this one, you’ll be able to skip it! ;-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "Just reading one from 18th!"then I think you need 'Say it with flowers' on the 19th and you're caught up to date :-)
I do have moral qualms about the effect Tallis Steelyard might be having on the cats, but these are easily resolved because we are talking about cats familiar with the writings of M.T :-)
That is the next one, think the other two I have left are yours - I am looking forward to the 'pontification' one, they are my favourite. The downside of the Tallis ones is the pronunciation! I wouldn't be too worried about the effect you are having on the cats, they have been read two fiction books about serial killers this year, the first had a horrendous amount of swear words.
I hope the cats will forgive this one. More dementia related gubbins. It's been a really rough two weeks. That's not mentioned in the post but you can probably read between the lines that there's a difference in viewpoint over whether or not Dad has to go into a home. I've managed to get round it by putting his name down for one with a really long waiting list! Mwahhahahahargh! https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2018/12/01/de...
Couldn’t read this weeks to the cats, the dementia ones always upset me, although I did get through this one without tears. Sorry you have had such a rough few weeks, hard when there is a difference in viewpoint. It is hard being patient and thinking of them as having a disability is a good way to process it. I found 3 years hard, I can’t imagine how hard 14 years must be, luckily my nan was never aggressive. I always felt my mum was harsh when she couldn’t remember my granddad was dead or my brother lives in a different country and would tell her, I preferred to just say they would be back soon. I can’t post comments on the blog, but hope you can get enough posts on the Alzheimers Society website to post links, I think it will provide comfort to a lot of people dealing with it, even if it is just that some of the thoughts (I also wished my nan could be free, because her quality of life was so diminished, she was no longer able to enjoy reading, which was one of her favourite things) are perfectly normal and it’s OK to accept it isn’t easy and that sometimes you need support.
It is tough but it's also rewarding. Your mum was only short with your grandmother because she was hurting. Mum is sometimes short with dad and I can see it's the same thing. I'd lay bets that almost 99% of the things you felt about your gran and her illness at the time and that you feel now are absolutely normal - even the bits you felt it still feel guilty about.Take care you xxx. If I can get the research together it'll be one about the 'the change' next week.
Cheers

Never thought about it being rewarding MT – we were lucky that my mum could care for her, so she stayed at home till the end (ironically her and my granddad both died in the same room 3 years to the day!). I do hope you can find a way for Christmas to be less stressful for everyone too. Lovely, another thing I have to look forward to!
I always think dementia must be scary. So if the person seems relaxed and happy it’s good to know all the effort to keep them OK is working! ;-)Cheers

Mwqhahahargh! I probably do! I've never seen it written down! ;-) And I think my symptoms are grimmer than some but at the same time, like the grim bits about being pregnant, none of it is life threatening stuff, just really annoying.
Read your blog post with interest last night – slightly worried that it explains some of my recent worries, sleeping issues and memory/concentration issues! I’m going to make a lifestyle change, and if no better in 6 months, was planning on a trip to the doc, will make sure I get one with a nice female doctor. I think it is something that you should talk about, it happens to all women! I thought you had a good balance of seriousness and humour.
I was going to respond to the blog, but I forgot... I'll blame it on the hormones. I also forgot what I wanted to say. Also, who am I and what am I doing here?

Really pleased it was handy and glad the balance was OK. Also pleased to have allayed some of your worries. I genuinely thought I had early onset dementia and booked a double appointment with the doctor. But after about ten minutes on the sore boobs and other lady things I was suffering, she said she reckoned she was pretty sure what was wrong but had one question to confirm. Then she asked, was I having short term memory problems? When I said I was and explained that my worries about early onset dementia was the other thing I'd come to see her about she said, 'nope, you are approaching the menopause.'

So I have heard, but 15 months without is a fairly good sign.

This is true, unfortunately! Hormones are a real bastard! And there is the post menopausal stuff to worry about but most of my friends who are that side of it find it’s wearing off a bit. I think one is still suffering. I suspect I’m only really about 5 years in, and the first five were just my body not settling after giving birth to McMini and then it started in earnest when I was about 45. I’ve never had irregular periods they just became more and more grim and the surrounding hormones more and more vile. Then again, all my life I’ve taken things to make them less horrible.

Woot! Thanks! It’s not one of the best parts but it’s the best bit to put in because some folks will, at least, have read Unlucky and know what’s up next.
Always that vital one step behind but I would be delighted with some - any! - sort of menopausal symptoms. At this rate I could carry on forever... (mother was nearly sixty :( )
Just read this weeks, was chuffed to have a reference to your cat fans, will read them the short this weekend, might be easier from the laptop. Can't judge Coco's reaction though
Oh, it's lovely to have time to catch up on threads!Gotta say the memory thing has started to affect me. It really caught me off guard and was very frightening the first few times.
It's very reassuring to talk about it and know it's a normal process.
Also, it's a good excuse to get out of doing stuff. ;)
I may have to forget to go to some pointless meetings next term...

Yeh it is scary, I was so relieved to find it wasn't dementia. I like that idea to escape meetings. Maybe I should try that. Hmm...

I hope the story will go down well, and glad the mention did! ;-)

My Mum was 56. I'm 50 and I've been having menopausal symptoms since I had McMini basically. Just didn't settle down after the upheaval of birthing the little blighter.
It's a joy.
This one’s a lot funnier. Not the funniest but definitely funnier. And it has McMini in it which is always a winner.https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2019/01/12/oh...
Loved it! Only downside was I laughed so much I had a coughing fit, so had to read from calling yourself a bell end in my head, which confused the girls! Can't believe McMini read part of that e-mail and also missed the date! Did like his comment about the teachers now believing him about the swearing!
Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "Loved it! Only downside was I laughed so much I had a coughing fit, so had to read from calling yourself a bell end in my head, which confused the girls! Although I apologised if it inconvenienced you at all! ;-) As for reading the email, yes, McMini is as daft as I am.
Cheers

I'm so glad they know what I'm like by now! And it's a very nice school as demonstrated by how seriously they took the lost watch.
