Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "Sorry you have had such a bad week, and hope you can find a good solution to the finance issue. Your last bullet point did bring a tear to my eye, I did wish that for my nan"Thanks, and yes, the last one ... that’s my Mum. Dad didn’t relish the prospect of going batty either but it wasn’t the one thing he repeatedly singled out as the thing he didn’t want.
Mum told me how she used to visit my granny and she’d lie there, show no sign of noticing that anyone was there and Mum would just sit there crying. It must have been so lonely. I wish I could go back in time and hug her. I guess I just have to hug her now as much as I can.

You've written some seriously good blogs on the topic!
You're doing a great deal for a lot of people you'll never meet
Discussing your posts with Dave has helped us articulate our concerns about our parents and our futures, as well. As Jim sez, you're doing a good thing.

It's lovely to think it might help people, I'm never sure if I am or not...

OK, so now I do know someonereads it! Mwahahahargh! I've only done a handful of dementia posts as it's a bit hard core for all the time, but I do feel that if I'm honest and it helps one person, it's served its purpose ;-). There is so much that you are never told, as a sufferer and as the person trying to support them.
Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "It is so hard watching them and trying to hide your feelings"
Yep, definitely one of the most difficult things.

The Skype visits were better than nothing.

Dad often thinks he’s related to the people on TV or that they’re in the room. Same kind of thing, I guess.

You're doing everything you need, and what you can, and teaching your child proper behavior - that's what counts. Not just because he will be in charge of many things for you, but for his life and empathy in general. Plus he gets to spend time with grandparents who sound like a lot of fun.

My nan thought people on the TV were in the same room as her, and have conversations with people like Alex Ferguson. Your posts definitely do help, although as they make me cry, I'm glad you don't do them all the time

For what it’s worth I can’t do them all the time. They make me cry, too sometimes, although that one didn’t because it was mostly offering practical advice.
I’m going on holiday for a couple of weeks soon so things might get a bit wobbly on the blog front! I’ll probably manage a post next week though.
After a very long time, I have done a blog post, sort of: https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2018/09/02/wh...Enjoy.
Loved the pics. Cats weren't keen on this, as there were too many pics. Looking forward to one of your normal long posts.
Please tell my feline friends that there are two very long posts in the offing for next week and the week after.
Yes, enjoyable blog post, and your comments about happiness are so accurate - not always easy to keep a positive mind with chronic pain, but I do think it is important, and like you say, be thankful of what you do have in your life. Also a good thing not to compare your life - I recently reconnected with an old friend, on paper she has what people are expected to do, she's married with kids, but she doesn't seem particularly happy, and has a lot of uncertainty in her life, yet I'm happy with mine
Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "Yes, enjoyable blog post, and your comments about happiness are so accurate - not always easy to keep a positive mind with chronic pain, but I do think it is important, and like you say, be thankfu..."Glad you enjoyed it and yes, I think, sometimes, that we are all so busy striving to break out and be the next big thing or tick the expectational boxes, or be where we think we should in life at our particular age that we forget how blessed we are. And sometimes, I think we’re so busy trying to achieve our expectations that we forget to revel in the moment and just ... you know ... be.
Cheers

Excellent. 2k plus words of joyous ranting! Desley, I hope the cats enjoy this one! ;-)https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2018/09/15/ad...
cracking blogI wondered myself how the younger generation rebelled and came up with this

Really enjoyable blog post MT - I can post a pic of Chanel enjoying it if you'd like? I wouldn't worry about McMini thinking you are an adult, more that to him you are the parent and he is the child, and that must mean you are.
I also meant to say, your parents sound like great parents, you are very lucky. I think McMini is doing fine in that regard too
Adult? I'm the matriarch, for Pete's sake!My next sister, who still lives in Mexico with the rest of the family, is a much better matriarch than I would ever be.
Many people either never knew or have forgotten that there even is an older sister. Which is fine with me; she's an extreme extrovert and handles the job with panache.
Gingerlily - All kinds of everything! wrote: "Panache and elan? Which sounds like a crime fighting duo with a lot of style."Mwahahahargh! I think there’s a short story in there!

I hear you. Mum is the matriarch but I do a lot of it.

Thanks, on both counts and do post Chanel enjoying I’d love to see!
Will post it later/tomorrow - it is very similar to the pic when reading Jim's blogs. I do enjoy Jim's 'Pontifications' blogs, think the cats prefer the ones with sheep!!

Awwwww what a lovely puss cat! Listening so attentively!
certainly I can vouch for the second book, but was fascinated at your comments about reading it after the first (avoiding spoilers here :-) )Just to say that as I read the series the depth got deeper
Jim wrote: "nice one, facebooked :-)"Thanks, and I’m glad you enjoyed it! I had quite a bit of fun writing it, I do so love doing the sweary ones!
