Matt Black | 4 comments My reason for starting this topic is to aware other group members on some good deals for the Kindle right now. I just purchased Cell, Dreamcatcher, From A Buick 8, 11/22/63 & Different Seasons for $2.38 - $2.99 each. Normal pricing that I've been seeing for King's e-books is usually closer to $5.99 and up. I usually purchase my Stephen King books at thrift shops due to the lower price than e-books. There's a Good Will near my work that always has a few and they're $0.99 to $1.99. But it's nice to have both options, I'll probably end up with both formats anyways. So where do you get your books from?

Catherine (yarnmama10) | 89 comments I have a Nook and a Kindle PW so I buy in both those formats. Thanks for the tip on the sales.

Doreen Petersen | 252 comments I usually get all my books through iTunes so I can read them anywhere on my cell.

message 4: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I always pre-order the hardbacks so I get them as soon as they are released. I watch Barnes & Noble for his to be on sale and have purchased most of them in that format over the last three years.

I don't ever pay full price for Nook books because I already have the hardbacks, but it's nice to have easy access to them on vacation or at soccer tournaments.

Just like Kindles sales right now, B&N seems to have most of the same titles for $2.99 or less. I notice that when he has a title about to be released they put a lot of his stuff at a discount for a few months.

They do that with a lot of authors so it's a good time to get the e-books.

Doreen Petersen | 252 comments I get mine through iTunes only because space is limited in my apartment. Right now I have 146 books on my cell.

Gary Martin (gmmartinbooks) | 93 comments Some of the older books I get from Library sales, yard sales, etc. I recently bought a hardback copy of Stephen King's book 'The Shining' in great condition. It was a first edition so his later books were not even mentioned.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments The newer releases I get in hardback when they come out, and thanks to his publishing schedule, I usually get em for Christmas or my birthday as gifts.
When I was working on collecting them all though, I found many in library sales and used book stores/Goodwill. Some of them I have saved for and bought brand new though.
I usually don't buy his ebooks unless it's a short story that's not available anywhere else. I much prefer hard copies.

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments There's a real bargain I think if you are into audio books. If you buy the kindle e-book, you can often (at least so far) get a real deal on the audio of the same book. I think Kindle is promoting their whispersync feature which allows you to switch back and forth between e-book and audible audio. The system does work pretty well, and the bargains on audio books seem to be pretty good, because, let's face it, audio books can be as expensive has hard bound.

I read all my books on my cell phone too, Doreen. I think it works well and you always have the book with you. I've read some real monster works with no problems at all.

Chris (bibliophile85) | 83 comments Bearly Read Books, a Mom & Pop used book store nearby where I live. Wonderful atmosphere.

Also I tend to purchase e-book copies of my King novels through Barnes & Noble for my Nook, just so I can have them on the thing when I go on trips.

Veronica (veraj121) | 300 comments I purchase my Stephen King books from mostly B&N..for the Nook and the hardcopy.

Erin (ems84) | 2662 comments I've bought his books through Amazon, B&N and Target/Walmart.

Kandice | 4387 comments I've never heard of whispersync since I have a Nook instead of a Kindle, but I love the idea.

Linda | 29 comments Usually through Amazon

Nick,
I do prefer the hardcopy but being realistic since space is limited books on my cell work out best.

Nicolas Fernandez (iamnikf) | 1 comments I buy them through Amazon because in my country books usually cost 30 dollars, and with that money I can buy like three books on Amazon. Also I don't like to read e-books, because the mess with my eyes, so I never buy books in that format.

Doreen Petersen | 252 comments Whatever works for each one of us I think is good. As long as we keep reading I say go for it whatever form you get your books in.

Matt Black | 4 comments Ed wrote: "Why? Why? WHY would you buy dreamcatcher?"

Honestly, I've never read it and my goal is to eventually read all of his books.

I'm really appreciating everyone's input! It's always interesting to see which format people prefer to read. I was excited about the Kindle pricing since it feels like I don't read on it as much as I read paperbacks. If anyone finds anymore sales or deals going on, please post them.

Matt, that's my goal too! I really like Stephen King's writing style. Some of his books you may like and some not.

message 23: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I've read everything by King and to me one of his strengths is that he writes everything. He is usually classified as a horror writer, but so many of his best are not horror at all. His non-fiction is great and I am not a non-fiction fan. Fantasy, coming of age, fairy tales, straight narrative, you name it, he's written it and written it well.

Great comment. I absolutely agree!

message 25: by Constance (new)

Constance (lamblyn) | 13 comments I mostly buy his books at this used media store in my town called Mckays, sometimes they have his books in the bargin section for 35cents but that's usually the ones less received by critics...i.e dreamcatcher. If it's one of my faves or one I have been anticipating for months/years I'll splurge a little and get a copy from books a million or walmart. I have a couple on my kindle...Ur and the shining to name a few.

message 26: by Denise (new)

Denise | 1 comments Abebooks.com they have all his books for a cheap price or Walmart if the book was recently released.

message 27: by Marie (new)

Marie | 8 comments There's a little independent book store not far from where I live that I try to support & buy my books from. If they don't have what I want then I go to Barnes & Nobles. Otherwise I download ebooks if I'm not collecting them.

Rhian (rhianlovesbooksx1f4d6) | 508 comments I have only ever bought 1 brand new King book and that was doctor sleep a week ago, alk the rest I have found in charity shops which isn't difficult as his books are so popular

message 30: by Msmyrafaye (new)

Msmyrafaye | 9 comments There's a method to my madness:

1. If I run across a book at the thrift shop, I snap it up.

2. I check them out from the library.

3. I buy them myself.

4. I ask people to buy them for me for Christmas, birthday and Mother's Day gifts!

Squire (srboone) | 92 comments I've already got my HC collection of King's books, but I don't buy King trade HCs over the mail; I can't stand it when it arrives with a dinged dust jacket. I buy my King trade HCs at B&N, where I can pick and choose from several editions. Since Borders folded, these guys give me the best deal.

Special editions of King's books I try to preorder from the publisher. They are always securely packaged. (They better be for what some of these things cost!)

But it's Half Price Books all the way for my paperbacks!
