For me Night of Knives comes before Stonewielder. I might need to lower my rating to 2 stars for Stonewielder. Anytime I think about that book I only remember disappointment.

NoK is a better story. SW is a better writing style.

Finished it. I really liked the book, but I had some issues.

All powerful female characters were poorly written at this book. The were depicted as whiny or as bullies or they sounded male. He still has to improve a lot in this.

He brought a lot of characters of the main series, but they were superfluous to the story. (view spoiler)[ Lady Envy. Draconus, Topper are some examples that come to mind. He also implied that Karsa was there and did nothing with all that happening. Seriously? Are we talking about the same Karsa?

What was the point of bringing Chaur back?

What was the point of Antsy's going to Moon Spawn just to come back? To make us follow that journey just some a Seguleh that we barely know could bring back the mask? Lame, considering the amount of pages we had to read about that journey.

And Orchid? Just drop that she is an part eleint and abandon the story there? We don't even get to know if she is on Kharkanas or just walking the road?

Morn? Who is he?

Convenient actions and loose ends curbed a bit my enjoyment. That's why I could not give it 5 stars.

There was a lot of good parts: Seguleh, Dassem, Torvald, Scorch and Leff.

ICE's Kruppe wasn't as good as SE's, even if there were a couple of good scenes. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I agree, the female characters weren't as well written and I don't understand why Chaur was brought back. Payment for helping get rid of the Legate? It did seem unnecessary.

I think the Moon Spawn was more to do with Orchid and introducing her to us. I was kind of relieved that at least we had a familiar character telling us that side of the story as most of the time with ICE introduces a new POV I find it harder to connect to the story.

There were a lot of convenient endings for sure. It definitely wasn't a five star, but it's a vast improvement on what we've had in the other books. At least it was for me. (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]
