ABANDONED. Excerpt of Book in Middle School Textbook: two girls with the same name

In 6th 7th or 8th grade (between 1993-1996,) there was an excerpt of a book in a literature text book I read at school and I always wanted to read what happened in the whole book.

I don't remember the name of the textbook.

The story was about two girls who had the same name. I think the name was June, but I'm not sure. One of the girls was going through some trouble at home (her parents were going through a divorce maybe?) and she kept picking on the other June. I think there was a scene where she pushed her into a pool.

I know this is not much to go on but does anyone remember this short story or the name of the book where it comes from??

Was this definitely part of a published story or may it have been made up for the textbook?

Do you remember what the excerpt was used for? Meaning, did the textbook use it to demonstrate friendship, setting a tone, diction, etc?

I am not sure, but my gut tells me that it was part of a larger published story.

I think the excerpt was used to teach about bullying and perhaps an example of trauma that could happen to kids when families go through divorce?
