LovesMysteries | 327 comments January is almost over and it's about time to decide what to read for next month. I will lead our "side read" discussion. Here are my picks:

[A] The Sittaford Mystery by Agatha Christie The Sittaford Mystery by Agatha Christie
[B] Edgar Allan Poe Short Stories -- STORIES TBA The Complete Stories and Poems by Edgar Allan Poe
[C] Murder At The Brightwell by Ashley Weaver Murder at the Brightwell (Amory Ames Mystery, #1) by Ashley Weaver

Whichever book we decide to read, our first discussion will take place Saturday Feb. 4 and will continue each week until the end of the month.

The book & assigned chapters/stories will be announced THIS FRIDAY!!

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I read Murder at the Brightwell and I really like that series.

I would love to read the Christie book!!

I've been interested in reading Murder At The Brightwell and the series for quite some time now. But what book we choose is fine with me!

So we have 1 vote for "The Sittaford Mystery" Nicole?

Sittaford Mystery for me. It was my very first Christie and launched my love for her writing. I would love to revisit the story. So that's two for Sittaford so far. Also, I love the snow factor. In keeping with Jan - Feb weather and shorter days, frigid nights. Wouldn't feel the same reading this mystery in July.

That's one of the reasons why I chose it for this season ;)

And it looks like you chose a great Christie as your first one, too :)

I'll cast my vote and tell you which title I'd like to read and discuss on Wed.

On Friday, the winning book will be announced and I'll post the assigned chapters (or stories)

I think I prefer Sittaford Mystery. One of my favorites. (I think I have a copy of Murder at Brightwell, but haven't read it. We liked a previous book in the series.)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Who's doing the main read selection?

message 8: by Allison (new)

Allison | 905 comments I vote for the Agatha Christie as we've already read Murder at the Brightwell here...didn't we? Or did we read the 2nd in that series?

Well anyway, I vote for the Christie as I've never read it.

I looked through the archives and it looked like you guys read the 2nd book in the series. And you guys had the author of the book Ashley Weaver participate too? That's awesome! Unfortunately I wasn't in the forum at that time. Hopefully, at some point we'll read the first book in the series. It's on my list of TBR books for the year. And it would be great to have Weaver chime in the discussion with us.

Ok, so far we have 4 votes for The Sittaford Mystery. Anyone else is certainly welcome to join in our Feb. side read. The more the merrier!

message 10: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments LM, maybe if you go ahead and read the first book at some point, we can all be caught up and read the 3rd book or 4th book.

LovesMysteries | 327 comments Nicole wrote: "LM, maybe if you go ahead and read the first book at some point, we can all be caught up and read the 3rd book or 4th book."

Sounds like a plan! There's also a 5th book coming out this fall called "The Essence of Malice"

message 12: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Yikes!! More to catch on. No wonder my TBR list is over 1,000 and that's not including LOTS of books on my bookshelf at home!

LovesMysteries | 327 comments So MANY books, so LITTLE time!

Nicole, I asked J to but if she passes, might you have a suggestion as to who'd like to lead that pick? lol

message 15: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Hopefully J won't pass!

Did you guys pick a main read for feb? I didn't see one for Feb. picks

message 17: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Nope. Do you have any ideas, Jill? Whatever it is will be fine with me. I'll just add it to the other 20 books I'm reading in February LOL

message 18: by Jill (new)

I'll give 'til tomorrow to hear from J. If she doesn't care to start it and no one else wants to lead process for pick of Feb. main title then I'll get on it.
Just to recap - all one has to do is start thread, post a few titles...or not and then the rest of us join in with our noms. We give it a few days for titles to come in and then we vote. Most votes gets the main pick picked and then we start it Feb.

message 20: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Sounds good, Tina!

LovesMysteries | 327 comments So far we have 4 votes for "The Sittaford Mystery" . . . . and we're going to have a 5th vote because I'm voting for it as well!

We have until Friday when I will announce the winning mystery. I hope more will join for the discussion but for now, the voting round continues.

You asked me?? I never saw it! I don't even know what the choices are. I thought LM was hosting?

J, sent a Goodread e-mail...think it was yesterday or day before. Anyway, if you'd like to take over that'd be fine. Or not. LM is running the side read pick.

message 25: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinacz) | 6103 comments Mod
Hey, LM. Was thinking (dangerous, I know) that maybe it'd be better to break book down in chptr sections and leave last one or two sep. I didn't do it with Dietrich book and things just seem to lump together. See whatcha think. I'll leave it up to you.

LovesMysteries | 327 comments The side read for February will be . . . . . THE SITTAFORD MYSTERY !

Here is the discussion schedule as follows:

Feb. 4 -- Ch. 1-5
Feb. 11 -- Ch. 6-12
Feb. 18 -- Ch. 13-19
Feb. 25 -- Ch. 20-27
March 4 -- Ch. 28-End

The discussions will be promptly posted each Saturday and discussed throughout each week. So get a copy of the book -- buy it online or borrow from the library -- and we'll start the first discussion next Saturday!

LovesMysteries | 327 comments going to "bump" this post up so those who aren't aware of the reading schedule will take notice :)

I totally forgot about this one being chosen as our side-read when I was looking at our choices for main read for February. Well the weathers usually bad in Feb so I'll have plenty of reading material!
I will go get this so I can read along...

message 41: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Has anyone found any (non paperback) Christie's in second hand or antique stores? I'm not about to collect expensive and/or rare books like first editions but it would be nice to have some of those books on my shelf!

I haven't Nicole but then I haven't been looking for any.

Mine arrived today. New crisp copy with fresh paper and print scent sans mildew that enveloped a previous read. (What can I say...allergen sensitive). Ah-h, the simple pleasures of life.

Couldn't wait. I've started a revisit read on mine last night. Like reading it for the first time. Love it but then I <3 séance-y mysteries.

I'm actually going to get a head start and instead of posting the discussion tomorrow, I will post it sometime tonight so be on the lookout!
