Xavier | 912 comments ((What would we skip to? I'm not saying it has to be them finding him, I'm just curious.))

message 52: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) (Them hanging out again, Nico getting taken, I'm not sure. (Sorry. I just woke up so my brain isn't completely functioning yet...)

message 53: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments ((It's fine. I'm the same right now. Umm. Maybe the other vampires are close to finding him and they've been wreaking havoc in nearby towns/cities and my OC is on edge because they know they're looking for him so he kinda distances himself from your OC because when they find him he doesn't want any casualties and your OC is hurt by that so he gets kinda fussy and unintentionally befriends a vampire who has been looking for my OC and that's how they know to use your OC to get to him.))

message 54: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) (Okay. That sounds pretty good honestly. Would you like to start?)

message 55: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments ((Whoo. Came up with that one on the fly. Yeah, that's fine. It'll be later today though. I'm in school right now. With that said, you can start if you want. I don't care either way.))

message 56: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) (That's alright. I don't mind waiting. It's just about time for me to leave to head to school right now anyways...)

message 57: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian paced his house almost manically. Rather, he ran. He sped up and down the stairs and through the halls to try and release some of his tension. He knew that it was bound to happen but he didn't think that it would be so soon. Derrian let out a frustrated groan and paused his pacing in the living room. For the past four months, murders had been happening in the surrounding cities at an alarming rate. To normal people who had no clue about his kind, it seemed like a mass serial killer. But Derrian knew who it was. It was the Holten clan, trying to draw him out and bring him out into a place he didn't know. Thankfully, he was smarter than that but he knew it wouldn't be long before they moved into Franklin (the city they're in) and forced his hand. And as such, he had begun the process of distancing himself from Nico. He couldn't say it was a process he enjoyed, Nico being a person he enjoyed being around and spending his free time with. But he couldn't have Nico close to him whenever the Holton's decided it was time to hit him head on. Derrian hadn't had to do it before and hoped he didn't have to do it again. But if they knew that he and Nico were any sort of close, they would exploit him. He was doing this to protect him, even if he had to lie to keep him from getting hurt. Nico couldn't know what he was. He just couldn't.

message 58: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) Nico was quite upset with how Derrian was acting but did his best to hide it. He'd been friends with him for years and suddenly, something had changed. It felt like Derrian didn't have time for him anymore. They barely met up for lunch or anything. Nico would spam his phone at times, trying to get some answer as to what was going on between them. But the rest of the time, Nico just threw himself more into the rest of his life. He studied and paid more attention in class and picked up extra shifts at his job. He didn't have anything else to do. Derrian was the only one he was close with so without him, life felt kinda empty and hollow.

message 59: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian sat down on the couch and ran his hands frustratedly through his hair, sighing heavily. This was causing so much stress in his life. He just wanted the Holten's to get to Franklin so they could get this over with. The more he had to draw out pulling away from Nico, the more it hurt. Derrian honestly just wanted Nico to find out what he was, hate him, and make it less painful to leave after the fight that was inevitable between him and the Holten's. Derrian picked up his phone, his fingers hovering over the contact with Nico's picture on it. He had taken a secret photo once because he wouldn't pose for him for his contact photo. So he just took one. He hesitated on touching the screen. He wanted to call Nico and ask him if he would like to do anything. They hadn't done something together in weeks but he wasn't sure if Nico would want to. And how was he supposed to avoid the question of "What's happening"? Still, he touched the call button and lifted the phone to his ear. It was Saturday, so he knew Nico wouldn't be in class but he didn't know if he would be at work.

((If you want, I can play the vampire you OC becomes friends with.))

message 60: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) (Yes please..)

Nico sighed. He'd just gotten home from working more of a morning shift at the bookstore. He walked inside his Apartment, setting down his keys when his phone rang. He took it from his pocket, a part of him hoping it was Derrian. He hesitated slightly when it was him though, a bit upset. Nico hit answer and brought the phone to his ear quickly, before he could convince himself to let it just keep ringing. "Hello?" He said softly.

message 61: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments ((Just tell me when to start him.))

Derrian relaxed slightly when Nico answered the phone and a slight smile came to his face. "Hey, Nico," he greeted. "Are you busy? I was curious to see if you wanted to meet up for lunch or something. It's okay if you're busy," Derrian added hastily. He wasn't gonna make him do something wiht him and he would understand if he didn't want to. He couldn't blame him.

message 62: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) (Alright.)

Nico sighed softly. "You barely speak to me for weeks now and I've been calling and texting almost every day, now you just ask if I wanna meet up or something, like nothing's been going on?" He said in a quiet voice, trying to keep how upset he was hidden, at least somewhat. "So what in the hell is going on with you?"

message 63: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) (Alright.)

Nico sighed softly. "You barely speak to me for weeks now and I've been calling and texting almost every day, now you just ask if I wanna meet up or something, like nothing's been going on?" He said in a quiet voice, trying to keep how upset he was hidden, at least somewhat. "So what in the hell is going on with you?"

message 64: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments That was exactly what he didn't know how to answer. Derrian sighed softly and ran a hand over his face. "I just... I've been really stressed lately. And, clearly, I haven't handled it well," he lied. Now what was he gonna say if Nico asked what he's been so stresses about? The murders? Vampires he didn't know existed? He didn't know. Oh god, this was a bad idea. Not because he didn't like Nico but because of the myriad of problems this created.

message 65: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) Nico bit his bottom lip. "Then why not come to me Derrian? You've always been there for me and I told you I'd do the same for you.... Or maybe just said, I'm really stressed out and may kinda disappear for a bit?" He suggested. "Because hearing that would be a whole lot better than not hearing anything and wondering if I screwed up or if you got killed or something..." He said softly, pacing his small apartment.

message 66: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian started to speak then stopped. He was just digging his grave. "Out of all people, you are the one I least want to burden with my issues. It's not that I don't trust you. I just know that college and a job and all that at once is hard. I don't want you to worry about my problems while you're dealing with everything else," he said softly, casting his eyes to the floor. "And I didn't just hide away intentionally. That wasn't my intent," Derrian explained.

message 67: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) Nico sighed in annoyance. "I don't care. I can handle it, I can handle my life and still be there for you Derrian." He said quietly. "Then what was your intention? Because completely avoiding and ignoring someone does typically have an intention of not wanting to talk to them or anything."

message 68: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments No you can't. Derrian shook his head. "I don't know, Nico. I just don't. I still want to be your friend, you're not the only person I haven't spoken to. I wasn't choosing just you when I didn't contact you," Derrian said, standing up from his couch and gesturing as if Nico was right in front of him. He knew he shouldn't have called.

message 69: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) "That does nothing to make me less worried about you. Suddenly cutting off everyone is rarely a good thing, honestly, it's probably never a good thing. So are you going to actually tell me what's going on or are we gonna end up meeting for Lunch and then you'll cut me out again for another few months?" Nico asked, struggling to keep most emotion out of his voice. He stopped pacing, looking at one of the walls and taking a deep breath. "I can't play games of constantly worrying what is up with you when you just disappear for a bit. You're the closest person to me Derrian and I really need you around," he admitted meekly.

message 70: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian closed his eyes at the last sentence. He should have just left it alone. Believe it or not, he didn't have the willpower anymore to ignore him and push him away. He rubbed his eyes and stayed quiet for a moment. If he didn't though, Nico would get hurt. He knew he would, that's how it worked. But what was he supposed to do? Give him a Vampire 101 talk? "I'm sorry," he said finally. "I promise that I will not try to push you away. But I will not promise that it won't happen. It's gonna," Derrian told Nico, opening his eyes just to raise them up to the ceiling.

message 71: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) "If you push me, just don't go too far away..." Nico said softly. He wrapped an arm around himself, lightly digging his nails into his side. Trying to remind himself to stay calmer and not get upset. "Please Derrian, I can't just completely not have you in my life..."

message 72: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments "I won't," Derrian replied softly, true sincerity laced in his words. As he spoke, his mind warned him of the repercussions of such a promise but he couldn't help it. He cared for this human, for Nico, more than he should want to admit but he did, and he knew it.

message 73: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) Nico bit his lip lightly. "So can we meet for lunch or something. I kinda would really like to see you. Make sure you're alright..." He said softly, looking around his apartment. He hoped Derrian would agree, wanting to work whatever this was between them out.

message 74: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian smiled and nodded. "Yeah, of course. Do you want to meet at the diner?" he inquired. "Or would you rather go somewhere else?" Derrian added, walking to the door and slipping on his shoes, taking his keys up from nearby.

message 75: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) "Either is fine. Wherever you decide.." Nico said with a shrug. He went to his bedroom, grabbing an old zip up hoodie from his closet and shrugging it on. He grabbed his keys, ready to head out and meet up with him.

message 76: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments "Then lets go to the diner," Derrian decided, walking out the door and quickly closing it behind him. "I'll see you in a bit," he said in goodbye and hung up. He got in his car and sat for a moment, flexing his fingers over the wheel. Derrian took a deep breath and started the car, pulling out and driving towards the diner.

message 77: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) Nico nodded. He put his phone in his pocket and walked out of the apartment, Locking the door. He walked to the diner, talking to himself as he tried to work out what had happened and everything.

message 78: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian parked in front of the diner and got out, deciding he would wait outside for Nico that day. When he pulled up, he smiled softly at him. "Hey," he greeted once he got the chance.

message 79: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) Nico stuffed his hands in his pocket as he got closer. He glanced Derrian over, making sure he at least seemed physically alright as he walked up. "Hey...." He said quietly, biting his bottom lip and watching him.

message 80: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian tipped his head in the direction of the diner. "Ready for lunch?" he inquired, trying to keep thinks light. He didn't know if he would want to keep talking about it. Derrian would talk about it or something else if he wanted to. He didn't want to upset him more than he already had.

message 81: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) "Okay.." He shrugged, keeping his voice quiet. He found it easier to keep his voice level and hide his emotions when he was quiet. Nico opened the door and followed Derrian inside.

message 82: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian sighed softly and walked to their normal booth. He settled in and watched Nico. "I'm sorry," he said quietly after a moment, running a hand through his hair. He wanted Nico to talk to him about something. It could be him or whatever was going on in his life. Derrian would take anything.

message 83: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) Nico sighed softly. "Whatever. It's fine I guess..." He muttered, looking around as he sat across from Derrian in the booth. He didn't want to be upset but then again, someone just completely disappearing from your life is a bit hard to be just fine with.

message 84: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian shook his head. "Clearly, it's not," he replied. "Say what you want. Cuss me out. Yell at me. Whatever," he told Nico then sat back in his seat. It wasn't what he had wanted it to be but he knew that it wouldn't be. He crossed his arms and closed his eyes briefly. He suddenly felt so tired, so exhausted. Ot felt like everything had just settled on his shoulders with a couple extra pounds added on for no good reason.

message 85: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) "Cussing you out or yelling at you isn't something I do. Besides, that's not gonna solve anything. Yes I'm a bit upset but I'll deal with it. As long as you don't just completely stop answering me and ignoring me again, it'll be fine..." Nico said softly, watching him.

message 86: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian stayed quiet for a moment. "I promise I won't pull away completely," he swore. A bad promise to make but he couldn't help it. He cared for Nico, he really did. He shouldn't and shouldn't've even admitted it but he did and had. Derrian paused as the waitress appeared and he order his typical water and rolls.

message 87: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) "Thank you." Nico whispered, looking at him. He bit his lip and ordered water instead of his typical cup of coffee. Nico looked around, staying quiet as be tried to figure out what else to say.

message 88: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments "Anything new going on at school?" Derrian asked, bringing back the mundane into their lunch after watching the waitress walk away for a moment. He wasn't sure what else to talk about. He couldn't talk about the issues he had been having and nothing exciting had happened to him recently. He was grasping for straws.

message 89: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) Nico shrugged. "Not really no. Couple new people joined some classes a bit late so I've been kinda helping them out." He commented quietly.

message 90: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian nodded silently. He glanced around. As he looked about the diner, he stiffened and his eyes narrowed as they focused on one man sitting in the other corner. The other man tilted his head at him, allowing him to see the branding on his neck. A vampire. He wasn't part of the Holtens but he was still dangerous. The other man smiled sharply at him, baring his teeth but as soon as that smile had appeared it was gone. Derrian knew it wouldn't be long at that point.

message 91: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) "Derrian?" Nico asked softly when he stiffened up and appeared to be watching someone. He turned slightly to see who he was watching before looking back at Derrian and tilting his head. "What's up?" He asked.

message 92: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian slowly took his eyes away from the man and back to Nico. "Hmm?" he mumbled half mindedly before shaking his head. "Nothing. I thought I saw someone but I was wrong," Derrian fibbed and placed a lopsided smile on his face. "It's all good,"

message 93: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) Nico raised an eyebrow at him. "You sure? You looked about ready to go deck that guy or something..." He remarked quietly. Nico watched Derrian, wondering what had been going on with him.

message 94: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian nodded assuringly. "Yeah. He just reminded me of someone I am not exactly on good terms with. At least I wasn't when I moved but yeah, I'm fine," he replied. He was going to have to come up with some lie to keep Nico away from him. They've already been seen together and how was he to know if that vampire was working with the Holtens or not?

message 95: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) "Alright." Nico nodded. He bit his bottom lip lightly but didn't question him anymore. He didn't want to fight with Derrian so he'd just have to trust him to be telling the truth.

message 96: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian sat there quietly, running his hands through his hair a couple of times. He wasn't sure what else to say. About anything. It was an awkward silence that sat there with them.

message 97: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) Nico studied him for a minute before speaking up. "So. What adventures have you been on lately?" He asked him quietly, just wanting them to talk. Wanting things to be back the way they were.

message 98: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Derrian smiled softly and thoughtfully. "Well, I went out of town for a bit a couple of weeks ago. I tried a new restaurant while I was there. It's a Indian restaurant. It was really good," he told Nico, leaning back in his seat. This was normal. This was what he had wanted.

message 99: by Fallen (new)

Fallen (fallencatalyst) "Since when do you eat Indian food?" Nico asked in confusion, still just curious though. He smiled faintly at him and ran a hand through his hair.

message 100: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments "Since I decided to try something new," Derrian replied, rolling his eyes at him. He looked up at the waitress as she came over and took their order, Derrian getting the same thing he always did. "I do do that sometimes. It may not seem like it but I do," Derrian commented.
