Zara's Retreat June 21st 2013 - September 20th 2014 The goal: read 3 books chosen from the "To Read" shelf of 1 Friend from Our Novel Escape.

Here are the rules:

---> Sign up for this challenge in this thread. Please no PM's. Thanks

---> You will browse your assigned friend's TO READ shelf and select 3 books for them to read this Summer/Winter.

--->Please make sure to link the book titles using the add book/author feature located at the top of the comment box. This makes it easier for your pair to access the book quickly.

---> You will have until the start of Fall/Spring (September 21st) to read the 3 books selected to complete the challenge. Don't forget, you have until June 21st to complete the Spring/Autumn Reading Challenge if you haven't already.

---> N.B. If you have any questions please just ask.

--->Please note: You start reading your books for this challenge on the 21st June.

Zara's Retreat PAIRS ARE UP. If your pair has specified a shelf please use that to make your selections from.

message 23: by Karin (new)

Karin (karindem55) Hi Jacey - We had a bunch of books in common - it was a little tough to narrow it down.

If I Stay - I just finished this one recently - it was a quick read (and good too!)

Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail - I read this one a while back - very interesting

Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald - I haven't read this one yet but have been wanting to. I love the time period this book takes place in (I just read The Paris Wife and am a little obsessed).

Enjoy!

message 24: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat Hi Sandra,

Here are my picks for you. I've read all of these books and absolutely loved them. I hope you enjoy them as well.

The Memory Room A Novel by Mary Rakow
Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella
The Iron King (The Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa

message 25: by Elizabeth☮ (new)

Elizabeth☮ Jayme,

You have a good variety of books to choose from, but I narrowed it down to these three:

To Kill a Mockingbird - I have read this twice and it is truly powerful even today. Once you read it, watch the classic film (if you haven't already).

A Visit from the Goon Squad - I liked this one because I felt the voices rang true.

Bossypants - I love this era of SNL and Fey gives an honest account of working along side some of the great comedic talent on the show. Also an honest account of being a working mom.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) Bettina, I'm choosing for you:

The Gift of Asher Lev
Graceling
I Am the Messenger

I tried to pick more obscure books that most people wouldn't recommend. Hope you like whatever you read of them!

message 27: by Janet (new)

Janet Hello Kristina, I choose for you:

Life After Life This one has been on my TBR for quite a while.

Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail I loved this book and hope you will too.

Me Before You Buy a box of tissues for this one!

message 28: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (klonk) | 39 comments Hello Janet, these are the books that I choose for you:

In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez.
I read this a couple of years ago and found it beautiful.

The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson.
This is a book written by a Swedish author, and I'm Swedish. Is that reason enough for choosing it? It's very popular main-stream literature over here. :)

The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga.
I read this earlier this year and regretted having it just stand on my shelves for a few years before I picked it up. Great read!

Karin,
Do you care which shelf I choose your books from? I noticed you have a couple of to-read shelves.

Jacey - you can pick from either my TBR or Help Me Decide shelves

Linda "The Book Lady" Warner | 98 comments Hi Melissa,

Here are my choices for you.
1. Angels and Demons Angels & Demons (Robert Langdon, #1) by Dan Brown --It has been a long time on you TBR list and I read it when it came out
2. Midwives Midwives by Chris Bohjalian --I just picked this one up to read myself.
3. Into the Woods--I heard many say this is good.

Enjoy!--Can't wait to see your choices for me.

message 32: by Jacey (new)

Jacey | 17 comments Hi Karen!

You were definitely right, we have quite a few books in common, so it was hard to narrow it down to just three. We maybe have to stay in touch after the challenge and offer each other suggestions! I decided to try to give a bit of variety with what I chose:

1. The Pillars of the Earth - Everyone I know that has read this book considers it one of their favorites, myself included. It's long, but actually reads pretty quickly.

2. The Aviator's Wife - I read this book earlier this year, and it reminds me a lot of The Paris Wife.

3. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? - I love Mindy Kaling, and the book made me love her more. I think she is hilarious!

Hope you enjoy!!!

Tina (tinaleetlc) | 14 comments Hi Teresa,
I tried to find books that would not be similar to one another. I hope you like.
Confessions of a Shopaholic (Shopaholic, #1) by Sophie Kinsella
Fay by Larry Brown
The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway
I am excited to see what you think of the books.

Hi Debs.

Unfortunately the sign-up for this challenge has closed and pairings have been made. However, if someone should not pick for his/her pair I could probably slot you in in their place.

Thanks, Bettina! All of those are books that I've been really thinking about lately. I'm on a Sophie Kinsella kick so I'll probably read that book for sure. I'll try to get the others read as well! Love these picks!!
