I remember when my temper lasted for about 1.5 seconds. Akos is interesting,but I wish his rescue attempt was better. I really hate Rezek and I'm pretty sure he did something to Cyra's current gift because it doesn't seem right. I also highly doubt that Cyra was the sole cause of her mother's death. (hide spoiler)]

I wonder if Akos will die in book 2. It wouldn't surprise me honestly. I honestly thought that Ori wasn't going to die, I thought she survived but clearly I was wrong. Chapters 1-10
(view spoiler)[I really love the different cultures,they are just so interesting. I like that the Shotet mark their kills on their arms as reminders. I feel so bad for Cyra and all the pain she feels... I actually miss Cyra's mother (even though we didn't get much of her). I also feel horrible for Akos and his family.

I'm interested to learn more about this world and the whole Fates thing. I wonder what Akos and his family's fates were.. I think his mother definitely saw what his fate would be and that was what she was hinting at during their lesson. So she saw what would happen (being an Oracle and all that), and I'm guessing she hid, but she could have hidden her children too? Hmm..

(view spoiler)[So I'm guessing a season in their world is a year in ours? Also, it looks like Cyra's family (especially her mom) is loved by their people. Refreshing to see a fantasy/sci-fi book where the people in charge are actually liked.

I'm super confused about what happened in chapter 5 with Cyra and her brother? Is it just me?

What? What is going on?? Pain is her gift?

Also, it's hard to keep tracking of when things are happening if they keep jumping forward in 'seasons'.

I'd like to know what happened to their mom, and where the dad has disappeared to? There's been like no mention of him after Cyra's gift develops.

And the brother is kind of a dick. He wants people to fear him and he uses Cyra's gift as a punishment and a threat, even though she's very clearly uncomfortable doing it. Fuck that guy.

I wonder if Akos' mother was Shotet and that's why he can keep their language.

I'm so stupid. I'm only just realising now, at the end of chapter 10 what the title means. Carve the mark means carving the mark of a loss on your skin. I'm with it now haha.

No one is supposed to know their fates until after they die however their fates were read aloud across the universe basically and now the Shotet leader went to get the Oracle (Akos mom) but she wasn't there. The youngest child in Akos "family" is supposed to serve the Shotet family till death.. Akos was apparently the youngest but for some reason he speaks fluent Shotet which seems to pass through blood.. which may or may not mean he isn't part of that family like he thought.. which means his fate may be something else. The second child of Cyra's family "will cross the divide" but she isn't showing any inclination to do so unless its metaphorical and not physical meaning she would side with the other side not her family.. I don't want to reveal too much since there are some mind blowing reveals at the end.
