omg yes it was!!!

message 55: by Jon (new)

Jon | 59 comments Hah, it was night when I read that part, and I was completely alone in the house. I remember thinking if I hear a noise now, I'll just die.

Fortunately for my sanity, there were no noises :)

It's really true.

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 573 comments Completely agree, Natasa. One reason Terry Pratchett is one of my favorite authors of all time.

Daniel Barnett | 239 comments I really loved a lot of this book. It's great reading through the comments here and remembering the story. Some aspects of the climax didn't quite work for me, but there were so many great moments throughout, I can't complain.

message 67: by Marc-Antoine (new)

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments I'm finished, and loved everything about this story! The build up was awesome, I cared about and loved the characters, and the finale was fitting in my opinion. I am and remain to be a constant reader, thank god we come across stories like these...

I enjoyed the discussion and reading with the group as well!

I agree. That was an insightful review. There was a lot of recovering going on in that book, and I had wondered when reading it whether it occurred before or after his accident.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments I once came across Duma Key at the library. I took one look at it and then looked into the page count and about fell on the floor. It would take me forever to read that lol.

This one was worth it, for me.

It's a book that's worth taking your time over. Besides, there's no rush; this thread will still be here when you're done - just try to drop by and let us all know what you thought :)

(P.s. how are you getting on with the Talisman..?)

message 74: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 81 comments I can't believe I had this book for years and never got
around to reading it. I absolutely loved it -- so typically Stephen King with his slow wonderful storytelling, introducing us to great characters that feel like friends and then WHAM BAM all hell breaks loose and even though I'm expecting it,it still surprises me when it comes ....

I think you've hit the nail right on the head. This book was classic King, doing what he does best.

message 76: by Marc-Antoine (new)

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments Agreed!

(shan) Littlebookcove (littlebookcove) | 137 comments I gotta say. I like this book a lot it feels safe. but with a slooky edge I don't like pam eds wife. but I like wireman and libit I do know though. all hell is going break loose and I'm getting ready for it! I don't want anything more horrific to happen to ed though. He's already being though so much!

message 78: by Crystal (new)

Crystal | 7 comments Just finished. I really liked this one. It didn't feel slow to me at all, just King's usual build up that keeps me up late devouring pages.

I think Wireman is one of my favorite characters he's ever written. I won't forget him.

message 79: by T.j. (new)

T.j. Sanchez | 7 comments Fantastic book. Did anyone notice the subtle reference to Hemmingways Islamds in The Stream with the last painting?

message 80: by Tom (new)

Tom | 340 comments I can't get into this and I can't figure out why. I am not too far in, about 100pp but still it seems to go on and on...

message 81: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (hillaryklenk) | 1 comments I already read this when it came out. It was very good but very long too!!

message 82: by Tom (new)

Tom | 340 comments OK. It has sucked me in. I think I just needed a couple hours. I like the relationships so far but King always manages to throw something in there that turns out to be annoying

message 83: by Tom (new)

Tom | 340 comments I don't know why this has taken me so long to read. I am about 100 pages from done but couldn't keep my eyes open. I am enjoying this one. And so far he hasn't messed up his flow!

message 84: by Tom (new)

Tom | 340 comments I am finally finished and frankly it was one of the best King books I've read in awhile. I enjoy his books but rarely his endings. This one was ... fulfilling I suppose.

I will. I'm half way through The talisman now. I was on an excavation so I didn't have much time to read. I'm enjoying it, but sometimes the world building is weird, I don't know..

message 86: by Keli (new)

Keli | 1 comments I tried listening to the audiobook but it seemed to be too slow for me, I love Stephen king books but I just couldn't seem to get off the ground with this one. But then again my favorite reads are more extreme horror and my 2 favorite authors are Edward Lee and Wrath James White.

message 87: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments Duma Key is a favourite of mine by King. I just loved the feel of this book. The ending ruined this a bit for me, but I think it will remain a favourite of mine.

Having said that, I'm not really a big fan of King's endings either.

message 88: by [deleted user] (new)

It left me weepy in the end, like King books do sometimes. Still like the endings, though.

message 89: by Nathaniel (new)

Nathaniel Darkish (njdarkish) Best Stephen King book. Period.

message 90: by Myst (new)

Myst | 408 comments Finally started this last night (3 months late I know, my TBR list for the year I wanted to make good progress on and I'm fairly confident I'll get that done before the year ends.)

75 pages in and the weight of the book got to be too much for me in 1 sitting. So far pretty slow but not dull slow. I'll keep at it though it'll be pushed aside for this week's tbr books.

message 94: by Alissa (new)

Alissa Patrick (apatrick12211) | 22 comments I just read this for the first time this month, after it being on my shelf for years. I really loved it. It def had some scary moments but I love the mindfuck moments even more (view spoiler)

Wireman was definitely my favorite character. He was very well-written. And the relationship between Edgar and his daughter Ilse was great.... (view spoiler)

I hated the creepy dolls haha. I kept waiting for Reba to move or talk or something

message 95: by Nathaniel (new)

Nathaniel Darkish (njdarkish) My all-time favorite Stephen King book (and I've read them all). Just phenomenal.

message 96: by Andrew✌️ (new)

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) | -116 comments Finished a couple of days ago. Wonderful and intriguing, one of my favorites. Also, for me, a book distant from the horror writer of the first two decades. There is not only the horror, but also a background of characters, with their stories, told with a few of sadness.

message 97: by Rob (new)

Rob Sharp | 74 comments I might be a teeny-weeny bit to this, but I finished this a few weeks ago, I read it in a little under two weeks.

I absolutely loved it, I find recent Stephen King books to have much more likeable characters which makes a real difference to me. This and 11/22/63 were some of my most favourite books of recent years. I thought the ending had a real adventure feel to it, three friends against the evil.

One of those books you really don't want to finish as you want to be able to spend so much more time with the characters.

message 98: by Rob (new)

Rob Sharp | 74 comments I meant to add that I'm supremely grateful to this group for firstly getting this book on my radar and secondly getting me to read it. I wasn't really aware of this book at all beforehand. I wonder what other amazing books I'm just not aware of?
