I read this not too long ago and I thought it was great. It was moving along nicely, and then I was surprised that it took a turn down Scary Street. It did leave me sad in the end, like King books often do.

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments "Black is the absence of light, but white is the absence of memory, the color of can't remember."

Walter, you sound just like my husband.

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 573 comments Well, Kathryn, this is a typical conversation:

Me: "Are you ready to leave?"

Wife: "Yes, I'm ready to go. I just have to put on my jewelry, then get my phone and my purse."

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

I do believe we've had many conversations such as that. Usually for me it's putting on my face. He's thankful for ESPN and the NFL Network for such times.

I got my copy and I'm just getting started. I liked that line, too.

message 37: by Monica (new)

Monica Go | 898 comments I couldn't buy Duma Key so I'm reading The Talisman by Stephen King

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
I finished the (audio) book last night. overall, I liked it but not as much as the shining. I felt it was too slow in the beginning. I wouldn't consider myself a Stephen King fan but I'm more open to reading his books now. what's his deal with twins? the only 2 books I've read of his is this one & the shining.

message 39: by Jon (last edited Jun 05, 2014 01:09PM) (new)

Jon | 59 comments I've read quite a few King books over the years, and I actually can't recall any of them (aside from The Shining and Duma Key) featuring twins. Though I can understand why you might wonder what the fascination is, considering those are the only two books you've read :)

Anyway, I'm currently up to chapter 12 and, even though I've enjoyed it so far, it has been rather a slow burner up to now. I can only assume that something utterly terrible is going to happen soon, though.

...Can't wait! Haha :D

message 40: by Jon (new)

Jon | 59 comments Monica, The Talisman was a great book, I thought! Hope you enjoy it :)

The sequel, Black House, was just as good (if not better) in my opinion.

message 41: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 71 comments Jon, I agree wholeheartedly!

message 42: by Katy (new)

Katy Mann | 988 comments I'm about 1/7 of the way in (hard copy for once). I get the feeling the threads have been laid out, and now the story is starting to pull together.

I finally caught up to chapter 5, I too have yet to be spooked but am very intrigued with where this story is going. I must admit that I'm not even noticing the changed words until they are pointed out. But I like the pace so far and am enjoying all of the characters.

Thanks! :)Hopefully I can get Black House soon, too.

message 46: by Walter (new)

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 573 comments Love this line:

"Give me a choice and I'll take A Midsummer Night's Dream over Hamlet every time. Any fool with steady hands and a working set of lungs can build up a house of cards and then blow it down, but it takes a genius to make people laugh."

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments (view spoiler) hmm, sounds creepy, wonder what it means... (spoiler from chapter 7)

message 48: by Marc-Antoine (new)

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments Here's another quote I enjoyed; “Life is like Friday on a soap opera. It gives you the illusion that everything is going to wrap up, and then the same old shit starts up on Monday.” chapter 8.

I'm at about the same spot you are, Marc-Antoine.

What does that mean? (view spoiler)
