A women is stranded on a Pacific island after her airplane crashes. She survives and eventually is somewhat assimilated into the local tribe's culture which uses tatoos to record a person's life story. She too is tatooed. Eventually she is rescued and book describes her feelings upon re-entering contemporary Western culture. My recollection is that the word Ink or Inked may be in the title but I am not sure.
