May is almost over! Out of all the books you plowed through this month, which one stands out the most? That book for me is Gilead. It completely blindsided me despite everything I'd heard about it.

Marie Hviding | 2 comments Gilead was luminous! I don't normally underline, but I was underlining everything. I just finished We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves and it is the best thing I've read in ages. Fowler combines a very smart but flawed unreliable narrator with a devastating story about family that completely undid me. I think it's right up your alley, Serena, if you haven't read it yet.

Adding it to my list, Marie :-)

P.S. In the episode that goes live on Tuesday, you'll all totally hear me cry when talking about Gilead. Sigh.

Stephanie (stephanie87) | 17 comments I loved Maddaddam by Atwood and really enjoyed Mr. Penumbra's 24 hour book store. If you haven't read Penumbrae you should. plus the Trade paper cover glows on the dark. how much better can you get than that? oh wait...this should go in the judging covers discussion :)

I still need to read Maddaddam, Stephanie! I would say soon, but I'm taking on a special summer reading challenge. Totally agree though re Mr. Penumbra's. I read that one last year on someone's rec.

Ravena James (somelikeithotbooks) | 13 comments My standout for May was Cocaine Blues by Kerry Greenwood because it gave me a strong female protagonist that doesn't let the fact that she's a woman hold her back from doing anything. Even in 1920s Melbourne Australia.

Ali (almarinda) | 5 comments Destiny of the Republic by Millard was excellent.

message 8: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (suzystjohn) | 3 comments Just one?? Ugh, I read so many great ones last month. Flight of the Silvers by Daniel Price was phenomenal, as was Lexicon by Max Barry. I don't typically read that much science fiction, but those two were pretty good, not sure that I completely classify Lexicon as scifi, but...it's close. I also enjoyed Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell.

Ooo...I've had Lexicon on my list for several months now. I need to pull the trigger!

Suzanne (suzystjohn) | 3 comments I raved about it for days....and lucked into following it with Flight of the Silvers. Lexicon was so supremely unique, it caught me on the first page and did not let me go until the final page.
